Buchon Incident at Lydd
I have just found the following news item on the UK Airshow Review site (www.uk-airshows.demon.co.uk), but there is no indication of which day it happened:
"A Hispano HA-1112 belonging to the Planes of Fame museum at Chino in the US suffered an undercarriage failure and was force to land on one leg. The aircraft has been in the UK for the filming of Disney's Pearl Harbor. The aircraft was returning to Lydd when the pilot realised the port undercarriage leg wouldn't lock in the down position. Several attempts were made to lock it to no avail. The prop was feathered to minimise any damage to it as it landed. The leg gave way after touchdown and the aircraft slewed onto the grass. Damage seems to be minimal. Its not yet known whether the aircraft will be repaired in the UK or shipped back to the US. The pilot, Steve Hinton walked away without injury and he must be congratulated for averting a potential catastrophe." I saw the Buchon being packed into a shipping container at Duxford on Tuesday (12/9). Does anyone have any more information, as this does not seem to have been reported anywhere else? |
It was the 2nd Sept I think. I should have put the date on it, sorry!
UK Airshow Review's proper URL should be www.airshows.co.uk |
