Sad to see these old aeroplanes crashing with such regularity recently.
RIP :( |
Good morning Pprunners
The only time Vintage Fighters were ever aro'ed was to stop some nasty man or men from filling you full of holes, The King paid for all the training and the pilots of the day fully understood what they were up against. Now today we see new or never flown in actuall combat pilots trying to do the same, they cannot and never will be able to emulate the pilots who were current when the machines were current, so why the hell just not fly simple move's like wing overs and the like, I don't want to see a Vintage warbird put through any sort of excersise just to please a crowd and as we have seen of late killing the pilots who have not had the ulitmate skill to undertake what they have tried to do. :( |
It is sad to see lovely old aircraft crash and even worse to have a death, but most of the modern pilots flying them are far more skilled than their wartime counterparts ever were. The attrition rate during the war due to "pilot error" was huge, more than enemy action I think,at least in fighter types. You were flying a spitfire or Mustang at about 7o hours clinging on to dear life. This of course speaks volumes for their courage and dedication, but vfr you are not comparing like with like. These aircraft were not meant for low level aeros, nor were they built for a long life, so I agree that they should be looked after.
