Free Mobile Phone. A Con?
 

Received an e-mail which purportedly originated from Nokia which states that if you forward the message to the contents of your address book you'll get a free WAP phone. The manufacturers supposedly monitor your progress by you sending a copy of the e-mail to them.

Sounds too good to be true.

It is. It's one of those email chain letter thingies.

They get confirmation that your e-mail address is a good one

And they get the contents of your address book.

They're just building mailing lists to hassle more unfortunates.

Don't waste your time. You won't get a phone out of it.

If you do send it on (yes, yes I fell into that trap) you automatically get an e-mail from them saying that there is no such person working for them and that the whole letter is a hoax!

And as Stelios says - In life there is no such thing as a free lunch.

It seems to me there are mny offers of free phones on at the moment. I registered with Moneyextra.com looking for a nice savings rate. I then saw an add offering a free WAP stands for(What -A load of -Pants), the catch was, you got no free minutes per month and paid quite a high monthly charge.

Sounds very much like "Bill Gaes and AOL will send you lots of money if you email this to everyone" (yep, that one' still going around!)

Worth an aside for those who don't read the "comp & internet" board, that the Pretty Park worm (virus) is active and well - I've been sent it an average of once per day recently!!

Some advice... don't touch anything from chain letters to people ringing you for account numbers on mobiles... supposedly a way to access your sim card. There is no such thing as a free phone!!

A local Aus service provider recommends you ignore.....

Thanks for the advice HAM but I'm not quite that gullible.

On the other hand, I think that bloke that sold me Tower Bridge was lying.
