What car?

Ok guys and gals help needed in choosing a new car and just wondering what your car wish lists are?

Got twins on the way so the sporty 2 door has got to go.

Have looked at the most diverse range of cars from the practical Zafira to the BMW tourer up to the Volvo XC. I really can't make up my mind whether to go practical or spend a bit more (well lots more actually) and get loads of luxuries and toys bunged in.

What do you think? Be practical and spend the extra money on other things or blow it all on a luxury toy cos we work hard and deserve it???????????

Also what's your favorite car and why? (always after new ideas)

Just interested to see what others think.

I've got twins already (girls, nearly 4 now)....good luck :)

You'll need something with lots of space & storage - ie, boot big enough to get double pushchair in and out of easily, that's easy to lift the car seats & babies in and out of aswell (you'll be doing it hundreds of times so little things like this become important).

We also found that having a vehicle where the seats are high enough for the kids to get a good view outside on a long journey can be a real stress-saver. Tables in the back that they can put their toys, kiddy walkmans and drinks on have been a bonus too.

Not sure what you're budget is - mines not vast, so the Renault Scenic did it for us - doesn't set the World on fire to drive, of course (but I've got to like the slightly higher than normal view ahead), but is comfortable and has a lot of equipment for the money (standard Aircon, ABS, 4 airbags, drinks cooler! etc).

A good spec one (with the pokey 140bhp 2.016v) can be had new for about £14-15k I believe.

Like the look of the 307SW aswell, not so sure about the Picasso (but even better value than the Scenic). Zafira and Avensis Verso may also be worth considering.

New Scenic coming to the UK next year - think we can expect something quite radical if the new Megane, Espace & Vel Satis are anything to go by.

Hope it helps.

If you're not buying new, the Vauxhall Omega estate has got to be about the best value buy. Don't be put off by the Vauxhall badge - the Omega is a lovely drive - refined, quiet, good rear-drive handling. And they depreciate very fast (because of that badge) in the first year or so. And the estate is both good looking and *very* capacious.

I bought my ex-company car, an 18 month old V6 2.5 CD estate(all the toys) with 40K miles on it for just 8K. That's a 22K car new!

or get everything you want and a lot more. get the AUDI RS6 estate. raw power, sheer joy to drive, and enough room between you and the kids that you can't hear them over the grunt of the engine noise. sheer bliss, and the best of both worlds  :D  :D

Friend of mine has the BMW 530 diesel estate as a company car, and is in almost the same family position Officedesk with two very young children only 13 months apart.

Frankly, i found it a quite astonishing machine - the acceleration is excellent, it's quiet and feels as if hewn from a solid billet of steel. Lets just say the build quality rather highlights a few "character traits" of my TVR...

He spent some money and had a media pack installed with t.v's in the rear headrests....non stop barney dvd's but it certainly keeps his offspring quiet; overall he feels the car provides almost as much fun as his '95 plate M5 once did in years gone by, but with drastically reduced running costs.

Methinks you could do a lot worse;)
