Spitfire crash at Duxford

I've heard that a Spitfire crashed whilst landing at Duxford yesterday. The 73 year old pilot escaped uninjured.
Anyone know anything?

I don't know a great deal more than you've said.
I'm told (unconfirmed) that the Spit was one of the build-for-sale models, being flown by a Dutch owner who was uninjured.

I'm pleased to say that, contrary to reports on another thread, it was neither my friend Ray Hanna nor his historic Mk IX, MH434.

Ray is safely in Switzerland with the OFMC team - and not yet 73!! :)

A usually reliable source informs me it was TD248/G-OXVI. Owner Karel Bos of Historic Flying crashed on landing wiping out the u/c and prop. Quite a bit of damage but thankfully no injuries.

Glad the pilot got clear - I was there 2 weeks ago and the Spit pilots gave the crowd a display of great flying.

Hope he gets it repaired without too much trouble :) Safe Flying to all the pilots of the "historics".

Reported from the "Duxford Times"

Spitfire Involved in Landing Accident
Friday 11 May 2001

At around noon on Friday, Spitfire MkXVI TD248/G-OXVI was involved in a landing accident.

It's been reported that the pilot (Karel Bos) walked away unhurt, however there is damage to the aircraft's undercarriage, port wing and propellors.

TD248 is now in Historic Flying's hangar at the eastern end of the airfield, out of public view.
