Two dead - one injured in two crashes

From the BBC <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="2">An investigation is underway after two people died when the light aircraft they were travelling in crashed. The plane came down shortly after taking off from Stoughton Airfield, near Leicester just after 0930BST on Saturday. The Cessna 152 is thought to have stalled in the air and it ended up in a nearby rape seed field. A man and woman, who have not yet been named, died at the scene, said a Leicestershire police spokesman. More than 40 firefighters used specialist water and foam appliances to deal with spilt aviation fuel before a police surgeon could get on board. The Civil Aviation and Accident Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. -------------------------------------- In a separate incident a light aircraft crashed near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. The Rand KR2 aircraft came down in a field in Upton, close to Coney Lane, just after 1400BST, Lincolnshire Police said. A nearby resident managed to release the pilot from the wreckage. even worse news from Sky - Sea Fury crashed killing its (Owner)pilot at Sywell, and another light aircraft crashed on Osea Island Essex.
What a tragic day. |
How do you know the pilot of the Sea Fury was the owner???
As there are only two of these aircraft airworthy in the UK at the moment and one is based at Sywell I would respectfully submit that you are making damaging and needless assumptions without proof. Be very careful, until the name of the deceased has been released assume and say nothing. This is a very sad day, please dont make it worse. My sincere condolences to all involved in todays sad events. |

Three crashes five dead,the latest tonight in Osea Island,near Maldon Essex,two dead in a commanche.Everyone in aviation should take note and regret.

Sorry to keep sad threads going, but I think its relevant. Appologies to everyone if it's already been posted elsewhere. McLaren Mourn Death of Ilmor Co-Founder Saturday May 12th, 2001 Paul Morgan, co-founder of the Ilmor engines, was killed today when the vintage plane he was piloting crashed on landing, police said. Morgan died when his plane flipped as it landed at 3 p.m. (1400 GMT) at Sywell Airport in Northamptonshire, around 80 miles (128 km) north of London. A police spokesman said Morgan had been flying alone. Morgan was managing director of Ilmor Engineering, the company that builds and supplies McLaren's Mercedes Formula One racing engines. Ilmor is named after founders Mario Ilien and Morgan. The McLaren team expressed shock at Morgan's death. The company said in a statement he had died in a flying accident but was unaware of specific details. Morgan was flying a World War Two propeller-driven South African Naval Fury plane, police said. The single-engine plane crashed on landing, flipping over onto its cockpit and trapping the pilot. "He was certified dead on the scene by a police surgeon," the spokesman said. The airport was temporarily closed. Officers from the Civil Aviation Authority will investigate the cause of the crash. Morgan, of Brixworth, Northamptonshire, was in 52 years old. |
Very, very sad news indeed. Met Paul Morgan a few years ago at a fly-in at Sywell. We were very surprised to see a P-51 suddenly taxi from the hangar. After he'd flown it we got talking to him; seemed a very affable chap. I shall always regret not taking up the offer of a ride in return for a 'contribution to Church funds.' One of those things that I shall probably regret for the rest of my life, but I was 'in some financial stress' at the time. Eerily I am just reading the Nov 2000 issue of Fly Past which features his Corsair on the cover, and a feature article on Paul and his aircraft - things take a little time to reach Oz!
