Sywell Closed 12/5/01? Spitfire upside down?

Condolencies to all involved. VP8 |
From the BBC
"...In a third accident a man piloting his single-engine WWII propeller-driven aeroplane died when he crash-landed at 1500BST at Sywell Airport, Northamptonshire. The pilot, who was from the county, was dead at the scene. A Northamptonshire police spokesman said: "A single engine World War II propeller driven aeroplane crashed on landing at Sywell Airport, flipping over on to the cockpit and trapping the pilot inside." The Civil Aviation Authority and the Health & Safety Executive were informed and the airport temporarily closed." I have seen reported elsewhere that it was a Sea Fury (completely different from a Spitfire, I assume from the above posts that you also call all airliners Jumbos). The only one based here is owned by Paul Morgan. A very sad day, my sincere condolences to all concerned. |
Anglia Television reports:
"A pilot who died in a plane crash in Northamptonshire has been named as Paul Morgan, from Brixworth near Northampton. He was an engine specialist with the McLaren Formula One racing team. He was landing at Sywell Airport near Wellingborough when the accident happened yesterday afternoon. Investigations are continuing today into the cause of the accident." Condolences to his family and friends. Isn't it a sad reflection of the times in which we live that a report of a Spitfire crashing (now apparently confirmed as a Sea Fury) is relegated from R&N to 'Non Air Transport' Issues. [This message has been edited by neutral99 (edited 13 May 2001).] |

Disgraceful. I know that technically it was the correct thing to do, but I personally wouldn't have moved it. It appears somewhat callous |
