"Two light aircraft have collided in mid-air at an airfield in Essex, injuring at least three people. Early reports indicate that two light aircraft were coming into land at North Weald at 1725 BST.

It is understood both planes came down in Mill Street in the Hastingwood area of Harlow, approximately eight miles north west of the airfield.

Fire crews and an air ambulance have arrived at the scene.

Police say the collision is being treated as a major incident"

Teletext says it was 2 Cessna aircraft which had a collision overhead North Weald. RAF Sea King on the scene, wreckage strewn over the Harlow area, unsure of injuries.

BBC now reporting possibly three dead and one of the aircraft may have been a warbird, to do with filming of sequel to'Saving private Ryan'......the other was a cessna.....

Cessna 150 and Yak 50.
Info from web news site.

The Commander 20th Apr 2000 00:27

1 person believed to be on board the Yak 50. The Cessna 152 had two on board. Obviously Pilot + Passenger. Passenger is thought to be a child.

BBC News is stating that it has heard possible reports that one aircraft was doing 'Aeros' just moments before the tragic event.

Always a tragedy to hear of fatal incidents involving the UK G/A community.

Sincere condolences to all who are affected

Regards.

The Channel 5 10:00 news reported as a Russian Yak & a 2 seat Cessna. They also said one of the aircraft was giving an "aeronautics (sic) display".

Once again a fine piece of journalistic accuracy - of sorts.

Silly question but why has this been moved to the Non Air Transport Issues Forum??

Fast Erect 20th Apr 2000 15:32

Yes, I was wondering that too.

Daifly 20th Apr 2000 16:50

All the crashes seem to move here.

Out of sight, out of mind...

I think they should stay in the main forums where pilots could maybe learn from them.

But who am I to say!?
