Gladiator is back
Several months ago in the midst of court battle with SIA, Mr. David B. of RW law firm in Seattle, Washington, USA, lead lawyer for SIA asked Gladiator's lawyer the following:
"My client, SIA, is kindly requesting that your client (Gladiator) abstain from any further communication with other SIA pilots via PPRuNe. This would tremendously speed up the settlement discussions." I considered it and granted SIA a cease fire. Well, 8 hours ago, SIA and Gladiator signed the final settlement papers. Oversight or not, there were no provisions in the settlement regarding PPRuNe. So YUPI KAYEEH, it is now open season folks. I will spill all the beans. No censorship by the tyranny of SIA or the tyranny of Singapore government. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war. Sweet smell of victory. Stay tuned. |

Glady, the impact your postings will have on SQ, and those who bother to read them, would be about as effective as the impact of a grasshopper [and that's over stating your relative size] on the windshield of a Singapore Airlines 747 travelling at 340 knots, that it has decided to take on!!

Captain Erebus nice to hear from you. I have not been in touch for good reason. One being that SIA wanted to know through court discovery documents exactly who I am talking to and about what. I even severed contact with DB but will re-establish contact soon.
The full outcome will be posted shortly. Will start with overview followed by what was actually filed in court (public information). It is centered around safety of SIA and the actual practices of the carrier which does not meet ICAO minimum safety standards in addition to Singapore's own Air Navigation Order. It will be interesting to hear about it all Gladiator. I know you have your critics on this forum but that's to be expected and in some cases encouraged provided that criticism is constructive. (None of this personal bashing stuff...)
In any case, I believe SIA like many airlines is not 'picture perfect' and has it's faults like others do. But I accept some of your points regarding safety violations in SIA and SilkAir. Are you aware that about 3 years ago, nearly all of SilkAir's 737's were 'sabotaged' by someone who stole the turn and slip indicators? This was an MEL 'must have' item but the fleet continued to operate for a few days after until spares were found. Also, after the MI 185 crash, why wasn't the fleet grounded until a precautionary check on the aircraft was at least made. Nobody knew for sure why the 737 concerned had crashed, yet the next day, operations resumed as normal!! (Albeit with saddened crew and ground staff.) MEL items have in the past, been swapped from one aircraft to the next in an effort to extend the validity period. You and a few others have listed the numerous flight and ground occurences SIA has been involved with, so I won't repeat these here. Are these safety violation issues? I think so. Has SilkAir and SIA learned anything from all of these problems? Qantas is in the limelight for problems they've had as well.Has Qantas learned anything? Maybe J. Strong has learned to comment with a little more tact and accuracy. Provided these accusations of safety violations in SIA, SilkAir and Qantas are proven, and hopefully rectified, at the very least admitted...then I hope the industry as a whole will take heed of their experiences. Forget this loss of face stuff. It occurs every where and not just asian airlines. I hope these 3 airlines, in particular SilkAir, own up to their responsibilities. Hiding behind a veil of threatening law suits doesn't convince anyone....it just delays the inevitable. CE |
Captain Erebus in the case of SIA/SilkAir unforunately the government of Singapore owns the airline as well as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. Add to that the fact that ICAO does not engage in enforcement activities. The result becomes in the case of SIA/SilkAir a boot leg operation as far as safety is concerned.
The sad part is people guage SIA/SilkAir by the great cabin service only. Award after award after award. In a year or so myself and a senior NTSB official (retiring this month) are publishing a book on these matters. This will hopefully get the publics attention from a different angle away from the politics of government to government red tape. My goal in the somewhat future will be a movie/documentary on MI 185. Stay tuned for safety details as presented to the Federal Court in the US. |
I must confess Gladiator you do have a talent for keeping people "interested" in your topics and threads. Unfortunately, most of the content is like the T.V. soap opera, the punch lines are too predictable and they cover the same old plot over and over and over again.
