Engine selection

Hi everyone,

Need help from anyone who could clear my doubts.....Well it started like this....A friend of mine went for the MAS trainee aircraft maintenance engineer interview and he was asked a question about the 744....The question was why did MAS choose the Pratt & Whitney (correct me if i'm wrong) engine for it's 744?My friend was not able to answer that....

So my question is what criteria does an airline takes into consideration for choosing an engine for its aircraft, generally, and specifically why did MAS choose the Pratt & Whitney engine for it's 744?I've checked on the web and found out that they are not much difference in the thrust rating of the 3 engines available for 744,any other differences?? ......Plz help.Thanks.

These are the key factors for MAS management decision making team to consider when come to engine purchasing:

1. The reliability of the engines (statistic wise).
2. The cost of maintenance per hour of those engines.
3. The best operational support from at least taken from 3 engine manufacturer.
4. The rotating spares in the region of operation
5. The most important is, forget all of the above and find the manufacturer giving the best commision for your own pocket.

It works all the time.
