Jet Airways has finally been grounded

I am really worried about the job prospects in India now. As a pilot who is very close to converting my license to dgca, I hope the other airlines don't get saturated with the pilots. It'll be a **** show next couple of years.

I got my license way back in 1996. East West, ModiLuft, NEPC and Damania shut down around that time. It was a world of pain for hundreds of freshly minted pilots at that time. And it lasted the better part of a decade. The economy is a lot more robust than it was back then. Nevertheless, expect to be on the sidelines for much longer than you had anticipated prior to this shutdown. There are hundreds of fully type rated and experienced pilots shipping out resumes and calling their friends in different airlines. A rookie CPL holder has a spot at the end of a very long line. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you and your peers are in for a seemingly never ending soul destroying wait. Just prepare to hold out for a long time. Good luck to all. Going to be a rough few years for any newbie pilots in India. After the Kingfisher failure, guys were out of work for a few years. I think this time it will be easier, as Indigo are expanding at a fair rate- but the collapse of Jet will send shockwaves through Indian aviation at many levels. I wonder if it will give the DGCA pause for thought....... Nah! |

1750 / 0 Aircraft owned by them (the wide bodies that are not leased still have residual loan values to pay & USEXIM has revoked those loans).
The banks are confident that by 2nd week of May they might have a buyer. Good luck with that. Are the airways crowded, surprisingly not & only on select routes while rest have a lot of empty seats. Seems Spice is the best placed to snap up the leases of about 20 plus aircraft & higher the equal number of crew who agree to a haircut. Doubt the other 3 will be able to absorb aircraft & flight crew without a substantial expense. I feel the ripples will go away in a few weeks & Jet will be a memory in a few months. Spice, Vistara will be the biggest beneficiaries with a little going to Air Asia & Go depending on how they can ramp up. Will be a while before another airline is attempted in India. Air India for sure will never sell |
Vietnam airlines will gladly absorb all those rubbish flyers.

I was thinking to start with my aviation career by joining a flight school from this mid year. Because my training would have to be funded almost 70% through loans , I wanted to be assured that there will be jobs for fresh cpl or type rated zero time. But seeing jet going down , would anyone say if its still wise to take the risk and go ahead with training keeping in mind that emi would start at max 1 year after doing cpl. Or should I wait for 2-3 years before trying again?

Very sad for those who lost their jobs. Seems like a decent carrier. And such a beautiful paint scheme too.
