Hi Framer, there are many agencies doing the recruitment services on behalf of Xiamen along with other airlines in China and all offering the exact same service and packages to pilots. In fact I work for one based in Dublin, Ireland but also have agents in China. However, one thing you should be very aware of is that at no stage ever should you pay any agency a single penny/dime/cent!! All agencies are paid by the airline and at no time does the pilot pay the agency anything. Would be glad to help if you have any questions.

IMHO, agents aren't worth the money that they make off of you.
They will hold your hand during the initial interview process, but if you have some acumen and with the information that the airline gives you (same as what a recruiter will offer) you can be as prepared as the rest of the candidates. In addition, there are plenty of insurance agents that will work with you, without having to be with an agent.
At a previous contract I had, it was mandatory to have an agent and I soon learnt that their priority is with the airline and not the pilot recruit.
I went direct hire with the airline and haven't regretted that decision.

Xiamen airlines is 100% owned by China Southern. So expect similar CAAC medical issues. It is quite carrier dependant. And the attitude of the candidate.

The elephant in the room is not so much passing the initial medical, its actually keeping it valid. So you pass the initial and are offered a position, resign from your current employer, it can be a big setback when in 6 or 12 months they say your blood flow rate is restricted, or your ECG is irregular.

With the big bucks pay comes associated risks. Otherwise everyone would be doing it.

And there will never, ever be a transfer from Skipper on 737 to 787 . But a carrot they will a dangle...

Guys does someone have any document/info/website regarding the acceptance of licences of the CAAC? Like a list of countries and then: accepted or not.

Yes there is one, regularly updated, but it is a CAAC internal paper: I cannot share, I am sorry. For any question it is possible to ask to any recruiter (at least any reliable recruiter).

Hey guys !!! Going for the CAAC check in a couple weeks. Has anybody been there recently? Just wondering what to expect for the sim check.
For the ones who've done it already... do you remember if the track line under the ADI works when they fail the MAP or ND ?

Gday all,
I am about to depart Xiamen, after 9 days here with my wife and 2 little kids.
We have had a great time here. The city is clean, with a well organised system of roads and public transport, and traffic that is quite honestly not bad at all. The local people are very welcoming and helpful.

We rode the public busses with ease and caught taxis using either google translate on my phone, or pre printed cards I had made.

Thank you to zxccxz for helping me make contact with one of the current Captains and his family. We had a great couple of days socialising with them, whilst they generously showed us around.

If anyone would like specifics about any particular aspects to the city and out visit, feel free to ask any questions, and DM if you prefer.

Overall, it looks to be a very liveable city, and the feedback from people currently at Xiamen Air is positive.

I’m looking forward to returning in May for screening.

Good to hear that you had a positive experience in Xiamen, I too are watching this contract closely, as it appears to be the best for treatment of expats, and Xiamen appears on the surface to be quite nice, with minimal pollution.

A few questions if I could..

1. Do you know what the schedules are like, and if most trips are layovers? Do you know what layovers the 737 has?

2. Which areas in Xiamen are best for expats? How much would a nice apartment cost in these areas?

3. Do they dangle the 787 carrot, as one previous poster put it.

1. 4 days on 2 days off (has been also the minimum 36 hrs off at times but new caac regulations are coming in 2019 where it has to be fixed 48 hrs off so ...). can be up and down, or 1 leg and layover, or 2,3 legs with layover, its random, but generally, you sleep around the network mostly for the nights in your 4 days rotation, but not always...
there is loads of layovers in china, a lot to name, but outside china its Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, manila, Bali, I am sure I forgot something..

2. thats personal, most foreigners live in International straits , gated community, very nice. apartment depends on your need, 1 bedroom from 5.000rmb, to 4 bedroom Giant ones for 10-12 k... but this is top of the range, can get half of these prices outside gated communities...

3. yes its possible, not really a dangle, they offered, foreigners refused basically so they stopped offering. apparently they will offer again,
