Becoming a pilot in South Korea with not much money and not that young... POSSIBLE???
 

Hello, I'm new to this forum... and I'm not here for me, but for my boyfriend.
I want to ask information about this career without him knowing cause he lost many money and he is very worried about his future.
He couldn't go to the University of Aviation in Seoul, cause he stayed in the military as a commander for 6 years. He is 31 now, 32 in korean age.
So he applied to an aviation company for private training (the one that trains future pilots for their own small airline). But this company revealed itself to be a not good one, he didn't receive the training and the instructor kept cancelling the lessons, so he decided to leave very early and to receive the refund of his money ( a very big amount) that he didnt receive and he is now in a lawsuit with this company. After that, he found another company, with a new airline... so he applied here too, but the company failed to get the permission from the government to start flying because they lost a lot of money and they needed an investor. So he lost the money he gave to this company too.... and now he is desperate cause he lost all the money he had saved from his time in the military. Actually this new company said to have found an investor, but there are no exact news for now, so we are not sure about what will happen.
So for now my question is.... is there a possibility to train in some other way, without applying to any of these company, for example paying just private lessons for flying and after time get the title he needs to apply for a job in any airlines??? Sorry for my english as its not my first language and Thank you in advance for the answer! I really hope you can give him some advice on what he could possibly do..... Thank you!!!!!:O

Why the heck he did not go through a normal flying school is beyond my comprehension.

The first place you should contact is probably the Korea Office of Civil Aviation:

KOCA

They will know what your partner needs to do to get a Korean flying license.

If there aren't any schools in Korea that your partner wants to train at then the quickest and cheapest way to get a commercial pilots license is to go to USA. A google search will give hundreds if not thousands of options for flight training across USA and the rest of the world. It's possible to start his training for a Private Pilot License and continue in stages to get the Commercial License later.

If he completes his training overseas then he will gain a flying license from the country he is training in. Again the Korea Office of Civil Aviation will know how to convert this into a Korean license.

I have met a couple of Korean pilots flying as expats in Asia. One of these started his career in another country so it is possible.

As you've probably guessed by now, one golden rule of flying training is NEVER pay the whole cost up front.
