Question A320 pilots

I heard a AI A320 landing at a airport between Kolkata and Delhi yesterday on a wet runway with rain over the field and a 15-18 kt straight tailwind... they were questioned multiple times by ATC but still they accepted the TW landing on the wet runway, and this was with tower observed winds.

curious as to the actual limits for Tailwind in a A320.... all the jets I fly have been 10 kts... is it really higher than 10 kts in the slowbus... Online all I can find out is 10 kts

Afaik, the maximum tailwind component for a 320 with IAE engines is 10kts and with CFM engines is 15 kts.

Not true. It depends on what you pay for. I operate IAE engine A320/1s some have 10 kt to/ld limit some have 15 kt. Others have 10t land, 15 kt takeoff.

Never ever seen a 15kt tailwind limmo for T/O (landing yes) for 321/320/319 but since you're a junkie on the thing I'll take your word for it.

This thread would be better in Tech Log where very knowledgeable blokes like Vilas can more than adaquately answer the OP.

Sounds like it would be quite interesting at max landing weight on a short runway with a 15kt tailwind. I can think of a 2400m strip we operate to, which would be very exciting under those conditions.

A320
IAE V2500-A5

Straight cut & paste from the FCOM

Wind for takeoff and landing:
Maximum demonstrated crosswind....................................38 kt (gust included)
Note: The maximum demonstrated crosswind value is not an Airplane Flight Manual (AFM)
limitation : It is the maximum crosswind condition experienced during the aircraft
certification campaign. Airbus recommends that operators should not intentionally
operate in crosswinds that exceed this value.

Maximum tailwind for takeoff..................................................... .......15 kt
Maximum tailwind for landing ...........................................................1 5 kt

Note: ‐ The maximum tailwind for automatic landing and rollout remains 10 kt.
‐ FLAPS FULL selection is recommended for landing with 15 kt tailwind.
