$336,000 after tax at hainan. Is this a misprint ?

Just saw this ad in flight global for 737 skippers. Is it meant to read $236k?

Captains B737 - Fantastic Salary and benefits with Direct Personnel International | 1401387463

WYOMINGPILOT 1st Apr 2014 13:04

This is the total package. Hainan is paying 100K plus in taxes to the Chinese government for you. Take home will be about 220K but you might be able to use the foreign tax credit on the taxes paid for you to offset any tax due in your home country if they have an ExPat tax.

Ok, but the ad says "Captains B737 - Fantastic Salary and benefits
Xi’an, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Haikou, U$D 336.000 net after tax, includes a range of various bonuses!"

Maybe it's 336K RMB. :}

It's been updated now, it was a misprint. Give I've 5 years and it'll be right!

Well the ad I'm looking at at the top of this page right now is for direct recruitment to HNA, no agency, and it's says "up to USD348,000 net after taxes".

Looking at the contract details, that amount is advertised as the top of the scale for the "100% Resident" contract option where is says the salary range is $251,000 - $348,000. The break down is (monthly):

Basic: $15,000
Type allowance: $2,000 (for 787/A330 rating)
Base allowance: $500 (based in China)
Housing allowance: $1,500
Safety Bonus: $2,000 (paid every 6 months) - No FDAP hits I guess
global medical/dental/optical coverage for family
International school fees for 2 kids
3-5 roundtrip tickets per family member per year.
$20,000 bonus for renewing contract after 3 years.
$300/hour OT for hours over 960/year

So it looks the the cash part of your salary if you're 787/A330 rated and don't have any FDAP hits will be $252,000/year, which is the minimum specified above. Any extra will come from the insurance/schooling/tickets value.

2 kids at international school is probably ~$30-40,000 and a good global expat insurance plan for a family of 4 would be ~$15-20,000
Throw in the cost of 3-5 full fare round trip tickets per year for your family and I guess it's getting pretty close to $348,000 in total value

It is possible on a decent contract and if you fly max hours to do around $300K annually in China.

The thing about China is that it's the best paying flying anywhere in the world but it's also the most aggravating (for westerners), the most unhealthy, and the most boring flying you'll ever do.

CSA / chinese pay

Yes, the HNA contract is pretty good if you get all the benefits.

Just got CSA PRC tax certificate for this year.

Gross salary for close to 1000 hours ( all with 4 man crew so 50% stick time or so) 280 000AUD including safety bonus..

Tax taken at 10% gross based on days in country ( tax cert says no more tax payable so assuming all good there).

In hand , 248000AUD I think.

Under ozzi tax law ( am reverse rostered MELB ) no more tax due so would be the equivalent of around 400 000AUD grossed up if you want to look at it that way. Around QF 380 skipper wages.

HNA is a good package , but if you dont get all the benefits it doesnt quite add up to the advertised amount as yet. unless I am missing something?

As far as China flying goes, yes domestic flying could be tedious but most of us at CSA dont do any / much of that.

Up and back from oz with a few EU two day trips to AMS/ CDG and soon FRA for a stein and swine!

Not too bad to be honest?

But of course there are always issues no matter where you go ... It is how you deal with them that counts.

not all beer and skittles but quite do-able!

The salary

As "burnable gomi" mentioned, the top part of the U$D salary is based on a 100% wide-body contract living in China and making use of all the benefits like insurance, schooling, bonuses, etc...

The lower number is always the guaranteed salary, meaning if you do not choose to take the insurance, schooling benefits and if you really put lots of efforts in not getting all your bonuses, which hasn't happened to anyone in Hainan Airlines over the last few years to my knowledge.

So, on a wide-body you definitely take cash home U$D 251,000 net per year.
If you are entitled to any benefits, as you insure yourself and your family, take your kids to an international school and get the lost of license program, then you can go up to a package of U$D 348,000 net per year.

Taxes and free tickets for yourself and the family members are not included in that figure and should be calculated ON TOP of that!

Any foreign based HNA pilots?

Thanks for an adult posting with a positive slant.

Actually its noticeable how little real expat basing and lifestyle info exists on current 2015 contracts.

For those who are contemplating joining the ranks on either China or overseas basings it would be really helpful to have actual people working under the new 2015 contracts on wide body providing some feedback on lifestyle and training, etc.

Any help with how it all works in practice is greatly appreciated.
E.G, are the advertised basings operational bases or commuting bases? How about off days and how long are you away from your overseas home while gone on duty?

Its one thing to read the T&C's and another to hear the real deal from someone whois actually doing it, I understood.

Thanks for PM or posting here.
