Juneyao Airlines: Go Around?
 

Dear fellow pilots,
I have received from a well placed source some informations regarding Juneyao Airlines that are not so positive so I like to share them with you in order to better assess this job opportunity.
Juneyao Airlines is actually looking for skippers with 600 hours on the A 320; the airline is based in Shanghai, PRC.
While the money package sounds good, the terms and conditions are not so bright because the contract lacks of the commuting opportunity.
Anyway my source add much more concern.
It seems that the recruiting process is way too long, and also the training, leading in many cases to a total loss of around the 30 % of the projected total income planned for a three years contract.
Many experienced captains find themselves stucked in Shanghai for ridicously long line trainings without being allowed to have leave at all, because leave days starts only after final release for line operations.
Many bad rumors also about the quality of the training and the general attitude inside the airline.
If it is true, this would not be an option at all for experienced A 320 skippers. I hope someone can confirm or deny this rumors or add more informations.

A friend of a friend told me many experienced Captains get stucked more than one year under IOE, line training, just flying right hand seat......

No pay, no upgrading......

Juneyao's been around for some time. Research thoroughly the Company and recruiter cos this aint the only bad vibes from China.

Are you an experienced captain? keep your ass far away from this company.
they will hire you as captain to downgrade you as first officer.
they only need a certain numbers of expat captains( for the company we are cheaper than the Chinese one), just to be allowed by CAAC to buy new airplanes.
they will keep you on training for 8, 10 , 12 months or even more, with 40% of the promised pay.
my brother joined that airline and is regretting it every day

Ok, no "I heard from a friend, etc..." I am here at Juneyao. I have been a contractor for over 15 years and have enjoyed my time living in and traveling to many different parts of the world. I joined Juneyao with high expectations and can now reveal that it has been, without any shadow of a doubt, the worst career decision of my life.

I am currently "line training" and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future on their training pay (which is less than half the advertised salary). I have worked out that, should I finish my line training in the next 3 months (highly unlikely) my average monthly pay for the entire 4 year contract term will be 12k, not the advertised 17k. Add to this the cost of living in Shanghai and sundry other expenses and stress created by these clowns, and I know I should have stayed at my old job.

You will be told by Juneyao that you'll be checked to line within 2-3 months after arriving in Shanghai. This is a blatant lie. My contracting agent also appears to be complicit in this lie (although, to be fair, the agent may just be mouthing off what they are told by Juneyao without checking).

Unfortunately, once you have joined a Chinese airline with your new CAAC ATP, you will not be able to move to another one since, over here, your license is essentially "owned" by the airline you join. So my advice.... if you wish to come to China, spend a LOT of time in research. Use your contacts and speak to people already here. DO NOT simply rely on PPRUNE posts (including mine). Be very careful. And above all else, steer clear of Juneyao unless you are unemployed/unemployable and/or from a dodgy background and can do no better.

security meetings(mandatory for every pilot...during your day off) are made in Chinese.waste of time
most of the local captains doesn't speak English
For one expat skipper that made a mistake, the company has ordered an extra simulator check to all the expat.
Good rosters are just for the Chinese crew

I was looking for information to share about Juneyao airlines and I saw this Thread.One of my ex collegues is now in Juneyao and he simply recommended me to apply to some other Chinese airline for the following main reasons :
-as a Captain with more than 600 PIC on A320 there are better contracts with higher salaries and commuting option.
-The the first year you loose 9000 usd/month for each month on training.If you consider that on a more efficient airlines the training time is 3 months and some of them pay you the full salary from the beginning,you can expect to loose 45.000 usd up to 80000 usd and more from your planned revenue.This means that the real salary is not what the brokers advertise.
-the training time is unknown because on most of the training flights, expats are together with chinese F/Os on training as well, and you have to share flights with them. You seat on the jump seat half of the time as observer .Average training time is 30 hours a month and when they schedule you to fly as f/o ( which is not in the contract's statements ) you log zero .
Some expats who relied on the signed contract told him they are taking money from their reserves to go ahead : a 2-3 bdrs apartment in a average expat area,2 kids in a average intl school,medical insurance, food shopping in the in the intl supermarket to avoid hygiene and heath troubles and, there you go,more than 8000 USD are gone.
In China the companies own your freedom to move towards any other job opportunity, so taking the right decision is extremely important.
Any other buddy who has a feedback ,whatever it is, positive or negative please report it.

What's the situation about the days off and the rooster?
Many companies in China offered a commuting contract, what about Juneyao?
