Looks like they're confident about revenue growth:

The airline placed a firm order for 63 jets and 30 purchase options and will lease the remainder, VietJetAir officials said at a signing ceremony with Airbus at the Singapore Airshow on Tuesday.

The purchase agreement covers firm orders for 42 A320neo, 14 A320ceo and seven A321ceo.

Last year, privately owned VietJetAir and Airbus agreed a provisional order for the 100 jets but the deal did not show up in the order book of Airbus in its 2013 data.

(“The message is clear. This is where the action will be,” said Fabrice Bregier, president and CEO of Airbus.

The company forecasts the region will need some 11,000 aircraft worth more than $1.8 trillion over the next 20 years.)

That's a big order for a company that has only been operating for a few years:eek:

2 years, with 11 A320s now. Indeed quite an expansion there. Let's hope someone also starts thinking about training and recruiting soon enough, not only announcing big orders :)

Where are they going to park them all, no room in SGN or HAN :hmm:

Suspect not all destined for home base. ThaiVietjet (and others) will be recipients too.

I understand they may start upgrading internally due Lack of Captain's. If true

Any word on the new airport proposed for Saigon? Plenty of ramp space available at Hanoi, when the new terminal will be finished.

Looks like the order may be for their other joint ventures as well and not just for Vietnam.

I heard that some question whether vietjet really has financing in place for this order, but I'd assume airbus also does some due diligence before making big announcements. The plans have existed for a while, they've had enough time to get things in place, so I think its quite likely that this is backed by more than just hot air.

As for the new airport in SGN, there is some bickering as always and everywhere, some suggested expanding TSN to the area of the golf course to the north and claim it would be cheaper than the 8 billion usd new project, but as far as I know its going ahead, partially backed by "official development aid" money, and plenty of "consultants" (international tax dollars at work...)
