Validity of DGCA ATPL Exam
 

Can someone confirm the validity of the DGCA ATPL papers:

- Does it start from the date of the result or the date of the examination?
- Suppose i passed the written in 2011 and passed the oral in 2012, will the validity be 5 years from the oral result or written result?

Would appreciate a source if you have one. Everyone I've come across seems to be certain of their view, but never has a source, and I have come across many conflicting views.

Technically speaking you are not considered passed in Air Nav and Radio Aids until you pass the oral as well

The validity of ATPL papers is taken from the day the result is published

So going by that logic for Air Nav and Radio Aids the validity should be counted from the date the oral exam results are published because only when you pass the orals are you considered passed


Disclaimer : The above is my own interpretation of the rules . The DGCA officer issuing the ATPL license can have his / her own method for interpreting the rules which can considerably vary from my explanation

@bucks_raj : I know it's date of result + 5 years, but the confusion was which result - written or oral?

Anyway, a friend has found out from his airline that it is from the date of the result of the written examination.

You pass the ATPL exam only when you pass written and orals both.

1 Crore years ago when all of you were vary passionate about flying COE used to send home a result card.Green for GEN and RED for Tech.The result card used to bear Date of exam marks and result.
Validity of the exam used to be The date of Printed on the Result Card + Validity (Not the date of Exam,Date of result)

The result card would be printed only after the oral result is declared.

Hence the Date of Oral result has always been governing.

I know what I am talking about because I applied for my atpl in the 12th month of the 5th year!

So you applied for it in 12th month counting from your date of oral exams result ?

Could some on please clarify this?I heard that the Theory papers are valid for 5 years if you don't pass your orals and you get 3 attempts for orals,understood that.But if you clear your orals then your ATP is valid for only 2 1/2 years only?

CIVIL AVIATION REQUIREMENTS
SECTION 7, FLIGHT CREW STANDARDS
SERIES ‘B’ PART I,
ISSUE II, 12TH NOVEMBER, 2010


The Technical and other examinations for the issue of a licence, rating or type
rating under Schedule II of Aircraft Rules, 1937 shall be completed within a
period of two and a half years immediately preceding the date of application
for the issue of the licence or rating,except for issue of Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL) and Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL), and for issue of
CPL and ATPL, such period shall be five years.

ATPL: The candidates, who have secured a minimum of 70% marks in
the Written Examination of a particular subject, will be eligible for Oral
Examination of that subject.

A candidate shall be declared PASS, if he secures a minimum of
70% marks in the Oral Examination.

In case, a candidate fails in the first oral examination, he can avail two additional chances to appear in the oral examination within a time period of two years from the date of written examination.


In case, a candidate fails in all the three attempts of Oral Examination,
he shall be required to re-appear in the written examination of the
particular subject/Composite Paper.


and btw... ATP is now valid for 5 years!!

Thanks Raj and I did look at the CAR.But it doest mention the validity of the theory papers,that's where the confusion was.I guess then the theory papers are also valid for 2 1/2 years only,it doest make sense Orals are valid for 2 1/2 years and theory for 5 years.

Is there a way to pass the First oral exam attempt and still worry about giving the oral exam again within a stipulated period

Is there a way to pass the written exam and then not attempt the first oral exam
