GA in/around Shangahai China

I got a nice job offer which would mean moving to Shanghai China for a few years, but I would hate having to give up flying.

I have a EASA PPL, I don't mind having to do some training, but the only schools I found offer commercial training with sims in China and actual flight training abroad.

There must be plenty of people flying small Cessna and their Chinese and Russian counterparts in China or not?

I'm looking for English information about flight schools, rentals, rules/regs. Any information about getting into the air around shanghai would be appreciated.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...
I looked into this a couple of years ago and there is no chance to fly a lighty in shanghai airspace (unless its all changed).
Most airspace in China is off limits to GA. However there are some places that do have flight schools but even then you have to book a flight slot in advance and if the wx is crap or the controllers decide that the traffic is looking iffy they'll not give you clearance.

Please feel free to do some research though, it may have all changed.
If you find anything new post it as I'd be keen to know.

Shanghai is awesome even without the flying, plenty to see and do. Can't wait for my next trip there.

It's possible, but remotely. Being fluent in Mandarin Chinese would be a criteria. There's a flying club in Hong Kong, but that's still 850 miles away, very expensive and very restricted in what you can do.

Best bet is to save up you flying dollars and go to the Philippines, Thailand or Australia.

I know. I'm in Shanghai now, have been here for most of this year, but every 6 weeks or so I get to go home for a week. To continue the project I work on, would mean moving here.

If I move to Shanghai saving the time is a much bigger issue than saving the $$. Back home it will be the other way around :p
