He added, in addition to the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, urine tests are also conducted at the Port of Soekarno Hatta. The urine test was conducted over four days. Three days earlier, a urine test is done to the driver of the vehicle at the existing terminal in Makassar.

BNNP visit to the port and airport Sultan Hasanuddin somewhat surprising. Two locations were not included in the previous agenda.

Pelabuhan Indonesia (IPC) IV is located at the Soekarno 1 Makassar became the first target of the inspection by officers. BNNP along with the ranks of Police Resort Port (Police) port directly perform a series of tests to 17 people consisting of the skipper and helmsman of the ship and the ship's Men.

He said he had just heard from some media about the types of drugs a positive indication of shabu-shabu. "There is an examination of the question, but no official results yet," he said yesterday.

Pujo confirmed that it still browse information about the arrest. To facilitate inspection of Garuda was banned for a while the pilot flies. "Lopes Victor Munoz was foreign pilots, now in a grounded (disabled) to facilitate the examination, while banned from flying," he said.

President of Garuda Indonesia, Satar had said, the airline applied medical tests at random (random) each month to the pilots. "On Garuda our existing procedures that we always do our random checks and we always do it, from the first routine per In no time, "he said.

He admitted that the checks are not done every day because it can take quite a lot. Emir asserted if there is Garuda pilots and employees who use methamphetamine or similar narcotics dismissed the sanctions. "We're fired, we can not tolerate it, no civil service rules. Not only the pilot but the entire staff," he said.

Head of Community Engagement, BNNP Sulawesi, Dr. Neni add this activity is a preventive measure to support the cost of transportation safety especially during the back and forth flow and reverse flow widths.
According to him, the activities carried out in order to anticipate the occurrence of an accident or other bad things especially for the safety of passengers due to the use of narcotics and the like.

Neal also said to know the results of the urine making it only takes about five minutes. He added that drug use is generally practiced by several pilots in order to improve the body for carrying aircraft.

In fact, he said, it was a bad move. Because actual narcotics will eliminate awareness and common sense of the wearer. "This is what we want to anticipate, because if you lose consciousness could certainly endanger yourself or others. Especially at a time like this," he explained. (Eka / pap)

Google translation...priceless.

is "had to" you meant "he is innocence"? really?

captplaystation 6th Aug 2013 08:58

Given the smell of weed wafting around Barcelona & the ready availability in Indonesia, I guess it is fairly believable . . . . . I remember years ago having to hold my breath passing rooms occupied by Garuda crew in a hotlel near Schipol. . . someone tried to convince me it was some oil/essence they used, but I am not so sure. := Would certainly partially explain their astonishing safety record. :ooh:

While Google translate is usually good for a laugh.....can anyone out there give a better translation? I haven't heard of flight crew being tested FIRST by a local/national police agency......by the COMPANY, yes. How common is this around the globe? I can't see the company testing this guy with a positive result.....allowing him on the aircraft and then calling the police!!

DeepUnderground 6th Aug 2013 09:32

It's a horrible translation, but the context is still about right.

despegue 6th Aug 2013 11:16

Captainplaystation,

Some drugs are legal in the Netherlands.
If not intoxicated when flying, these crews were completely within their right to enjoy a legal product.
Alcohol is far worse, but I am sure you consume from time to time...

All this crap about demonising Weed is simply ridiculous!

wingview 6th Aug 2013 11:28

@Captainplaystation

Indonesians smoke a lot of kretek which includes cloves and it smells like a joint if you've never smelled it before. It's not a narcotic so you can smoke as much as you like before or after a flight.

Longhitter 6th Aug 2013 11:42

Despegue,

Contrary to popular belief, cannabis is not a legal drug in The Netherlands. There is a non-prosecution policy with regards to it, with limits on the amount in possession of an individual that trigger prosecution.

Individuals found under the influence of cannabis while operating / intending to operate a vehicle or aircraft will be prosecuted, as is the case with alcohol.

The police in The Netherlands are trialling a saliva-test which indicates the presence of the active substance in cannabis in your body. They also have the power to arrest and take a blood sample of any person in the case described above if they suspect he/she is under the influence of cannabis.

The use of any unprescribed psycho-active substance is prohibited for aircrew at any time, both by law and usually by employment contract as well.

Suggesting that the use of cannabis is ok during your time off is rather misguided...

No it is not. And for aircrew it is forbidden to use any drugs at any time , even on your time off.

Itīs not acceptable at all, to post this kind of sh*t :=

Donīt spread the garbage.:=

captplaystation 6th Aug 2013 14:18

wingview,

that was the stuff, mind you , given we were in AMS I still have my doubts :hmm:

despegue,

you were joking ? right ?

I had a colleague in a former company who was married to a rather nice lady from the Netherlands. He liked a Beer, he smoked, and I am fairly sure not just Marlboro.

He was a very sharp operator, except. . . every once in a while he would have the most enormous brain fart & do something so left-field that you were left wondering if you were sitting next to the same guy you started the day with.

Thinking about it after all these years, I am sorry to tell you, but I am convinced it was the lingering effect of too many joints the night before,. I have in previous times flown whilst slightly "tired" after a few refreshments the night before, and I never came up with some of the wacky cock-ups that he did.

To suggest that Cannabis (particularly the modern/strong/synthetic kind en vogue these days) is somehow compatible with operation of a public transport aircraft, causes me to question what YOU have been smoking before posting.

The substance you refer to is neither legal, nor bound by any quality control, and has been proven to cause psychotic reactions. . . the fact it is in breach of most peoples contracts, & in breach of the law, is merely incidental to the fact that it is really not an intelligent decision to use it if you need to think straight.
If you look at the addled state of many folks of my age wandering around Amsterdam, I doubt you would find many that you would happily put in a cockpit after 30+ years of smoking the "safe" stuff, never mind todays toxic poison.

Not sure about all the countries around the globe, but in Australia, the CAAS does random screening of aircrews coming into the country. Testing for alcohol and drugs. While marijuana may be semi-legal in some countries, in places it is illegal to use and use by a pilot is considered breaking the law.

Boeing Europe 7th Aug 2013 02:44

I have been tested twice coming in Australia , they take a breath test , urine test sometimes and take a mouth swab.

DeepUnderground 7th Aug 2013 20:17

FYI article in Jakarta Post this morning shows that further testing resulted in a negative test.
