Initial Typerating DGCA Pre-requisites.

Hello Everyone!

I am all to set to leave for my Initial Boeing 737-NG Typerating Training. I am done with the registration and admission at CAE and just left with the Visa.

My question is what are the formalities required by the DGCA prior to leave for the Typerating. does one has to obtain a approval letter from DGCA in a form of NOC( No objection certificate) ??

Another question is , does one has to renew his/her IR prior to start the Typerating? I have a lapsed IR (more than 3 years), IR was endorsed on BE-76. what have others done those who had lapsed IR. will DGCA create a problem if I will do the TR with a lapse IR.

What are the other formalities required before the TR? If any?

guidance from other Typerated candidates would be much appreciated. Please let me know, how shall I proceed? Thanks in advance.

Happy Landings.

NOC is not required anymore for aircraft like 737

Read this CAR very carefully and thoroughly
http://www.dgca.nic.in/cars/D7B-B19.pdf

Please make sure your RT , FRTOL and medical are also valid prior to and during the period of the rating

I dont believe you need a valid IR for type rating since you will be getting a new one anyway, but someone who has done their type recently should be able to help there

The DGCA now requires the TRTO to send some documents directly to them . I strongly suggest you keep a scanned copy of all documents the TRTO sends directly to the DGCA as they are notorious for losing documents

When the TRTO sends the documents directly to the DGCA make sure they include your DTL Section file number on the address of the envelope so that it reaches the correct department without them having to open the envelope first

Cyrilroy21 : Thanks for the guidance and informative advice.

I am little apprehensive regarding lapsed IR because I have heard different experiences from multiple people. DGCA holds that one cannot start his/her TR training with a lapsed IR, but there have been cases where TR rating was endorsed on the licence with a lapsed IR and there have been other cases where they created trouble for IR lapsed licence holders.

I guess I have to seek information from someone who just did his TR training recently and successfully got it endorsed on his licence.

If any Typerated Pilot who has just got the type rating endorsed recently on his licence by DGCA is going through this thread then please add in your advice and input as it can help me and others as well.

Anticipating an informative and helpful response.

Thanks.

Dude! If I was spending big money I would make sure I check with DGCA before I even leave for the Type.

Go Spend a day or two, run after those babus and get your answers before you leave.

The forums work as a great way to find a direction but the hard work has to be done by you.

Please go visit DGCA.

DeanWinchester :

Obviously, I would not get into a big investment or a serious activity (TR) without finding out the correct procedures or sequence of steps for the Initial TR from the concerned authority.(DGCA)

I have done enough running to DGCA DTL Section. DGCA officials favorite answer or statement regarding any enquiry or question is "its all given in the DGCA website and circulars, better check it from there".

By putting my question here I am looking for the answer from the correct source (Typerated Pilots) as they are the best people to tell you the correct sequence of steps prior to the TR.

its not escaping from hard work by putting up an enquiry here, but getting in the information from all the sources and from those who know the situation better.

@gambol

Rest assured that lapsed IR is not your concern here, today's scenario almost every TRTO knows our rules requirements etc, all you need to do is make sure your licences are current (it's not the ratings).

(CPL, FRTOL, class 1 medical and COPRTR) need to be valid all through the period of your type rating.

MORE importantly you need to have your ELP endorsed in your licence before you can exercise the privileges of your ratings/ licences.

I'm writing this out of experience , in my case DGCA didn't endorse a rating till ELP was stamped.

Hope this helps, all the best.

Lapsed IR

Isn't it u need to have your valid IR before you get your type rating.. They usually use IFR rules

Thanks a lot for the information mate. Your information will certainly help my case and broaden my collection of facts.

By quoting above that Type rated Pilots are the best source for getting the right information regarding TR procedures,I wasn't wrong. you just gave me an important information about the ELP endorsement which I couldn't get from the DTL section. I was under the impression that its not one of the prerequisites for the TR. I had spent enough time at the DTL section with my line of enquiry removing all my queries, but they didn't even mention about the ELP requirement along others.

I definitely have my licences, medical, FRTOL and RTR current, but I haven't yet got the ELP stamped on my licence.
I still have more than a month to leave for the type rating, I will definitely give the ELP test and get it stamped on my licence.

alphasieara: Could you please provide me all the information regarding the ELP endorsement? how to go for it? whom did you get it done from? I will definitely go to the DGCA DTL section to find out everything regarding ELP and any other information, but information and advice from you will certainly help me and broaden my collection of facts.

Thanks again mate.

Information, opinion, and any other view from other fellow aviators are also much welcome.

Thanks Everyone.

@pilotWA123

a very valid concern, even i had the same doubt about current/lapsed IR rating, but rest assured i got my type rating with a lapsed IR and i got a type rating endorsed with new IR on type, even my sim partner got/did her training with lapsed IR, anyway to clear the air ill reiterate that current IR is not the concern here, to the best of my knowledge and experience with TRTO and type rating i will like to point out clearly that we need to have our licence(s), class 1 and COP valid, with IR endorsed (on single or twin engine) which ever the case may be,during the entirety of the course.I hope this clears every thing, again I`m only telling based on my experience.

@gambol

sorry for the late reply gambol.

ELP is a requirement for practicing the rating and privileges of our CPL, well i some cases i have heard that DGCA was endorsing type ratings on the CPL on a condition that the pilot gets his /her ELP endorsed before executing the ratings/privileges , well i personally do not know any one with such a case, hence i would recommend that you get your ELP endorsed before leaving,

I got my ELP endorsed based on my foreign licence and the verification letter of the licence issuing authority where it clearly mentioned my language proficiency along with the level.

In India i have been led to believe by few of my associates that ELP test is conducted by a few DGCA designated airline captains, and flying schools and the information is available on DGCA website, this is the best i know about it till now, I think some one who reads this forum can shed more light on it.

otherwise i hope that i have comprehensively answered what you had asked.

all the best!

ELP Endorsement

alphasieara

Thanks again Mate.

I will not leave for the Type rating until unless the ELP is endorsed on my Licence. I will make sure that I don't give any reason to the DGCA DTL section to create any trouble for the Type endorsement on my Licence when I come back.

Regarding the ELP, so you got it endorsed on your Licence based on your foreign licence and the verification letter from the concerned Licence issuing authority?? does this work ?? if yes then I would try to get ELP endorsed the way you got it done. Did you did not get examined by any ELP examiner in india? I mean, no ELP test in india? let me know what you did.

Thanks.

PPRuNe'rs

Other Friends those who have got the ELP endorsed on their Licence Please share your experiences and information here. How to go for it? I want to follow the correct procedure to get ELP endorsed on my licence.
Anticipating a correct response.

Thanks Everyone.

alphasieara 21st Jun 2013 17:57

No exam , just walked in with foreign licence and verification letter which mentions I have ELP LEVEL # and that's it , I had ELP endorsed in my Indian cpl (I was giving my documents for conversion at that time more than a year ago now) and yes I did get it based on my foreign licence , because the conversation Rules are clear about one thing and that is what ever ratings and endorsements we have on a foreign licence, will be endorsed on our Indian cpl, I was my self guided about this by a very senior pilot regarding the above.

And I suggest you search other threads in this forum , I do recall a dedicated thread for ELP

gambol 21st Jun 2013 19:38

Thanks a lot alphasieara. I will try and do the same to get the ELP endorsement on my Licence, lets see if it works. Anyways, all the best ahead.
