ANA To Dissolve Joint Venture With Malaysia's AirAsia

Japan's ANA Holdings Inc plans to dissolve its struggling budget airline joint venture in the country with Malaysian low-cost carrier, AirAsia, Japan's Jiji Press reported, citing officials of the Japanese firm as saying on Monday.

ANA Holdings plan to reconstruct the operations of the joint venture, AirAsia Japan, by buying shares from the Malaysian low-cost airline and making it a wholly owned subsidiary, the officials said.

AirAsia Japan launched its operations in August 2012.

The seat occupancy rate for AirAsia Japan flights stood at slightly higher than 60 per cent as of the end of March this year, slipping below 70 per cent believed to be a break-even line.

ANA Holdings still believes that it is possible to turn around AirAsia Japan with the know-how of its group companies, the officials said.

The company has yet to determine the brand for the successor to AirAsia Japan.

ANA Holdings owns 51 per cent of AirAsia Japan, with the rest held by the Malaysian low-cost carrier.

AirAsia Japan operates five domestic flights and three international flights and plan to launch flights between Narita International Airport near Tokyo and Taipei on July 3.

If its true that the sewer snake went there after being booted out of KL, not surprising ANA pulled the plug.
Couple this with T.F. not happy with QPR performance at all as reported in Telegraph newspaper in UK.

AirAsia Might Exit Joint Venture With Nippon Airways In Japan

UPDATE:..

AirAsia Might Exit Joint Venture With Nippon Airways In Japan

There is a possibility that AirAsia may exit from its almost two-year old joint venture (JV) with All Nippon Airways in AirAsia Japan due to differences of opinion within the management of the new airline.

AirAsia airline said the differences were most critically on the points of how to operate a low cost business and operating from Narita, Japan's major airport.

As a result, the low-cost carrier said in a statement today that it "would not rule out any option, including dissolution of the JV," which was established in August 2011.

"Nevertheless, AirAsia is still optimistic and committed to Japan and sees the potential for a low cost airline to thrive in the market, while not ruling out any option to make this happen, including, dissolution of the JV," it added.

AirAsia said the AirAsia Japan management team was predominantly comprised of ANA staff, starting with, but not limited to the chief executive officer and chief financial officer.

"Since its launch in 2012, AirAsia Japan has failed to track its proposed business plan due to an inability to manage costs, but has seen customer adoption increasing, as the brand starts to resonate in the market," AirAsia said.

AirAsia also said the parties are exploring all available options and any decision will be further subject to the respective corporate approvals of ANA and AirAsia Bhd.
