Disgruntled pilot "raps" Air India ...

... and gets knuckles sharply rapped in response.

AIR INDIA RAP - YouTube

Language is a bit choice, but having not been paid for five months, it's hard not to sympathise with his position. However, with both AI and the Indian govt looking very angrily at his work, his future at AI may be rather short. (Hopefully not!)

LieDetector 19th Feb 2013 19:48

Embarassing, if anything his internet connection and camera should be taken away. Poor lyircs and horrible flow in that rap. I've seen 12 year olds spit better flow than that.

PT6A 19th Feb 2013 22:15

A disgrace!

Aside from the problems within Air India, wearing your uniform and then publically broadcasting profanities like that does nothing but bring our profession into disrepute.

I hope the DGCA take steps to cancel his licence (I think it would be within their remit in India to do so)

At the very least AI dispense with his services for gross misconduct.

His public outburst resembles a spoilt kid as opposed to an experienced professional.

hawtin 19th Feb 2013 22:37

Disgrace? really? I think its a disgrace not to pay pilots on time, its a disgrace the way Air India is run and its a disgrace how young pilots are being exploited. Obviously he is no Tupac but atleast he has the guts to state the truth. And come on, its just a joke! no need to cancel his licence. By your logic any satirist/cartoonist should be stripped of his right to express. Everyone knows how screwed up the Indian aviation sector is. I have seen the general trend in India that the experienced commercial pilots waste no time in ridiculing the young pilots. But as it turns out we are the future and you better accept it.
All the best to the pilot in the video:D. Hope he is not fired over such a trivial matter. If he is then it only goes to show how overly sensitive the Gov/AI/DGCA is. Take a mature view and take this 'Rap' in the light hearted spirit it was originally meant in.
*End of rant*

PT6A 20th Feb 2013 17:21

Aside from AI's shortcomings...

In any Western Airline if you wore your company issued uniform and then proceeded to make those statements you would be dismissed.

Remember, they own the uniform not you. They also dictate when and how it can be worn.

Capt Apache 20th Feb 2013 19:14

Aside from Air India's shortcomings:confused:

Are you:mad: kidding me ?

There is nothing here aside from AI's shortcomings.

Thank you for your insight into uniforms mate

Olive61 20th Feb 2013 19:45

He'll be sacked - as is fit and proper - Good Luck and Good bye !!!!!!:=:D:=:D

PT6A 20th Feb 2013 19:47

Capt Apache,

Not only has this bright spark sealed his fate at AI but there is no way the likes of EK or QR would touch him now with a barge pole...

TopTup 21st Feb 2013 01:55

Put crap in, get crap out. Sort of like an FMC or FMGC??

Hire unprofessional idiots then watch them behave as such.

AI have masses of serious shortcomings anywhere from safety breaches that are nothing but deliberate negligence & fraudulent in nature to a safety and training culture built on nepotism, xenophobia and ignorance. Let's not forget the proud caste system!! BUT! There is also a "professional" time and place to air grievances and act on them. This fool chooses a self promoting avenue to attempt a side-line Bollywood audition (but for the inability to rhyme, compose, keep time or structure it seems....) He did manage to wear his tightest fitting tailor made shirt though.

You want to be treated like a professional then act like one. As this brat demonstrates, AI doesn't recruit or train many to that standard. Depending on who his father or relatives are, or the pocket he can line the fastest, will determine whether he stays or goes. Standards and professionalism have nothing to do with it at AI.

(Bet he won't be eating too many crew meals or drinking pre-opened drinks served by the FA's he just slated!!! Then again, he's dumb enough to not realise what he's done anyway.)

pakeha-boy 21st Feb 2013 02:01

yeah mate......the best part of him ran down his mum,s leg for sure.........should have worn a Ronald Reagan mask:ugh:

Capt Apache 21st Feb 2013 05:53

There is also a "professional" time and place to air grievances and act on them.
Yeah ! We all know.Thats the way most of us "Professionals" air our grievances.....On Pprune....Bravo !

TopTup 21st Feb 2013 06:33

For the slow ones.... Look at the top left corner of this web page:

"Professional Pilots Rumour Network"

Why are the ignorant ones the first to pounce? Especially when the word "professional" is as alien to them as lift, weight, thrust and drag. Crap in = crap out. Yep. The system they defend and their attitude therefore absolutely stinks.

Capt Apache 21st Feb 2013 07:21

Wow! you even know what Pprune stands for...

Sometimes you don't even have to put crap in to get crap out you know.

captjns 21st Feb 2013 08:05

Well I don't see a Grammy award in Junior's future. Based on his age, he was aware the disorganization of AI. That said what is his justification for his rap? He could have gone elsewhere, unless nepotism played a role a role for his employment into AI.. Oh well $hit happens.

Who knows nepotism may not be enough for Junior to keep his Payless Job. Time will tell, I guess. I suppose he could have identified himself by name, you know, for future work in the music industry, that is. That said he can concentrate on his second career which may become his first one.

hawtin 21st Feb 2013 09:34

Everyone here writing against this pilot is a hypocrite. So what exactly is your problem with his rap? He is obviously not very talented but hes frustrated at not being paid on time, not getting to fly and has decided to use youtube and music to air his grievances. Obviously the 'professional' way of grievance redressal is not working. Is it the lyrics that bother you? Well haven't you ever cussed in your lives? You all bitch and moan here all the time about how bad things are and this guy is doing the same just using another medium. Please just think about it. You need to stand by this pilot instead of disowning him. Nobody has a copyright on what an ideal pilot should do in his spare time. This is joke and should be taken in that spirit. 'Don't shoot the messenger' as Arnab Goswami would say.
The whole of gen y is like this. Nobody can say weather its for the good or the bad. Every preceding generation things the successive one is jsut a bunch of nincompoops. Believe me your fathers generation had the exact same idea about you. So please learn to accept new things which might clash with your morals. Thats the only way forward. I see no reason to sack this pilot because hes young and full of energy and quite plausibly an excellent pilot too. He repeatedly says that he loves his company and its the higher ups in the gov that are ruining it for everyone.
People should discuss about the real problem of the way AI is run and just have laugh at this rap. Please have an open mind. An airline does not own you.:ok:

captjns 21st Feb 2013 13:20

I nominate hawtin as the President of the disgruntled IA gear puller's Fan Club.

hawtin feels...

People should discuss about the real problem of the way AI is run and just have laugh at this rap. Please have an open mind. An airline does not own you.
On the contrary,,, as an employee of the Government, they do own their employees.

peeush 21st Feb 2013 13:23

Agree with Hawtin,

Why do we have to hide the ugly side at all possible costs... even if undermines the very existence of the organisation. Would we walk in for an interview to work for an organisation that basks in the the glory of its monopoly but doesn't promise you your salary. Yes, I do agree that another option is this lad quits Air India...but he simply chose to vent out in an effort to be heard.

Going by the philosophy of guys criticising the lad, there wouldn't be any revolutions against corrupt governments.

I think that Air India must feel the pulse at the grass root level and do something to get the wrong things right.

billboard 21st Feb 2013 13:37

Rapping while wearing uniform? Not cool.

The dude should have avoided doing it while wearing his uniform. A light disciplinary action is called for. Cancelling his license would be a highly uncalibrated response. Not to mention that when he challenges such an action in a court of law, how would the DGCA justify itself. Which statue could be used to justify the cancellation of his license? Firing him would not be a feasible option either. The reason being that in spite of many people disapproving of his actions, whatever he said was in fact consistent with the public view of the airline management. Firing him would give the impression of a whistle-blower(sort of) being victimized. I don't think the politician and bureaucrats at the top want such an impression to be given out. Remember the public reaction when Mr. Bharat Bhushan was removed from his post as DGCA? The general public loves upright officers and whistle blowers.

There is also a "professional" time and place to air grievances and act on them.
Which "professional" platforms(place) should he have used to air his grievances?

If things at AI are really as bad as TopTup's posts suggest then the rapper perhaps did the right thing because if the management and the board(govt. appointed) are so "unprofessional" then the creditors and shareholders viz. the People of India should be made aware of the situation. The dude actually made a contribution to the improvement of corporate governance at AI! :D

vserian 21st Feb 2013 16:25

Unprofessional all over it........typical spoilt kid attitude

At least show some respect for that uniform, many have worked hard to gain it. I ve worn that same uniform for many years in my life and felt proud in it everytime, treated it with all the respect it deserves but seeing this and what they are doing with it makes me sad and think everything is going down the drain in this profession .Wanted to slap his face when he turned that cap around and danced like an idiot. I will give all my credits to AI if they sack him which they should and (which he wants anyway!)

PEC 21st Feb 2013 16:37

The uniform Commands respect and this so called CAPTAIN Anjum does not give it any. This is what happens when a preposterous spoilt kid gets hold of a shiny Dreamliner. :ugh:

Secondly, I couldn't take it beyond the first few seconds. The hook in the song was pathetic to say the least. My neighborhood owl makes a far more appealing noise than that

TopTup 21st Feb 2013 20:55

Everyone here writing against this pilot is a hypocrite.
How so? This entire web site's name defines its natural existence. The actualities define a far different result though....

AI let alone the DGCA at the very least owe those under their umbrella uncompromising professionalism, defined standards & respect. You say it's a generation gap? No. A red light means stop & green means go yesterday, today & it will tomorrow. How those cultural symbols are respected or enforced is what will mould a culture. Go to many third world countries & watch basic road rules laughed at & completely ignored: it's a direct result of the spineless support of social laws let alone legal norms.

This brat has has a real gripe. He has a real reason to be furious. I would be too. Any professional airman must. However it's not what we do when the chips are down but our integrity in the recovery. He chose a sanctimonious avenue. He disrespected the uniform he does not own. At best - like all of us - he's a custodian of it. He ridiculed & slated his peers in a cheap blind-sided slap showing shear & utter arrogance (the cabin crew for those still believing they are beneath you).

What next? A smart ar$e rap about engine failures just after V1? Because they really suck & can ruin your day plus you don't get paid anymore for dealing with them..... If you're so mad then talk with your feet, your standards & integrity. Too much for some who lack a lot of each. If you're so good, so professional & so full of honor then take them elsewhere. Truth is, you can't because nearly all airlines worth their AOC won't touch many, if any, AI alumni.

Slasher 21st Feb 2013 22:23

He's going to get (deservedly) in the **** with the Company by displaying the uniform and
its logo on a public site. Had he done so wearing civvies he probably wouldnt've copped so
much flack.

Whatever the wrongs of AI its sheer  and he merits whatever's coming to him.

And I might add he's really  up his chances of ever getting employed elsewhere - he
forgets the internet is forever!

Capt Apache 22nd Feb 2013 02:04

Here we go....the Pprune crusade led by the Uniformers:}

PT6A 22nd Feb 2013 04:08

Capt Apache,

Any reputable airline will place restrictions on when it's employees may wear uniform and how they may act.

It will also place restrictions on them speaking on the companies behalf, failure to follow those rules (which normally form part of the contract of employment and or OM-A / General Basic) would be grounds for dismissal.

This chap has done nothing to further his cause, and everything to bring the pilots of Air India into disrepute with the airline and quite possibly the public at large (seeing him a spoilt kid whining about dreamliners - yes he would of done well to keep the 787 out of his video!)

pakeha-boy 22nd Feb 2013 05:11

sometimes ...when you mess with the bull...you have to take the horns as well....making a statement,is all well and good, you just have to be willing to take the consequences as well.....life is like that

Capt Apache 22nd Feb 2013 07:21

Any reputable airline will place restrictions on when it's employees may wear uniform and how they may act.
I'm sorry, Which great ,reputable, unblemished, immaculate, virgin, pristine airline are we talking about here ? I must have missed something.Bit slow you see.

You think just because this guy made a video, he is the only one who feels that way. There must be many others who feel the same stress but have not expressed it yet. These guys need counselling , not dismissal.

The attitude that....'these kids have got it easy'....'they don't know their job'....'he thinks he is too smart coz he flies a dreamliner'.....is indicative of another kind of malady. This pathogenic 'labelling' culture must be done away with.

Wannabe Flyer 22nd Feb 2013 11:49

Dude has a sense of Humor. With 500,000 hits I am sure he has a bollywood career lined up after this!

All aside appreciate the entire issues of airline, loyalty and dissing, but in reality he at least had the guts not to hide behind a mask knowing what the ramifications would be.

Anyone got his number for an offer on my G6???

pakeha-boy 22nd Feb 2013 14:50

Wannabe flyer quote......"but in reality he at least had the guts not to hide behind a mask knowing what the ramifications would be"

Yeah mate,a very smart move indeed....reckon it depends on whether you want to keep your job or not.......if this was infact his exit swansong....then hes made himself happy.....

PT6A 22nd Feb 2013 15:05

Capt Apache,

One example that springs to mind is the strike action within the British Airways pilot group a few years ago.

Did they wear they uniform? No

Did they swear and use profanity whilst representing the company? No

This chap is not a professional, there is no justification for behaving like that.. Then again Air India is not a professional airline!

fatbus 22nd Feb 2013 15:54

I'm sure his Dad is his connection and nothing will happen, that's how AI works.
