Air India Express

So what's the deal??? Is Air India Express looking for expats or are they just pulling everyone's chain by wasting time with the completing of mounds of worthless paperwork?

Anyone??? Anyone??? Bueller??? Anyone?

tolip111111 19th Aug 2012 17:39

Hey , even i have been trying to find out what is going on in AI express but its surprising to find that noone on this forum knows about it or doesnt wanna share the info!!

flyjet787 19th Aug 2012 21:39

they are desperately looking for TRI/TREs. They received about 5-10 applications (including 1 or 2 from jet airways). But so far they have selected 3 of which 2 of them have issues with medicals and stuff. They received approval for 20 TRI/TRE but till date only one has been selected.

Germanflyer 21st Aug 2012 18:07

Who is the recruiter looking for Tre's. Is it AIE or an agency.
And who is the boss of AIE. Anyone with info, please share. Can we get in touch on any email address.

flyjet787 21st Aug 2012 21:20

AIE is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India Ltd. which is owned by Government of India.

AIE has appointed RISHWORTH as the recruiter to help it recruit 20 TRE/TRI and 20 line captains. In all 40 Expat captains.

AIE has a sever shortage of TRE/TRI and has been desperately looking to recruit 20 expat TRE/TRI without much luck.

@Gestapo : if u need any more info please feel free to PM:ok:

As I recall, AI EX had a tentative assessment date of the 5th of July was cancelled at the last moment. The recruiter, from Rishworth, is unable to provide any information whatsoever, other than they are looking for crews.

In AI management style, or lack there of, its "ORGANIZED CHAOS:}" nobody knows anything.

Back to the Risworth recruiter... she is not in the pro-active mode to get contact any of the Gabronies at AI EX to get any sort of a time line as to what their plans are.

Prop.Time 22nd Aug 2012 10:26

So long as the Dogra brothers have their say and run the airline as per their whims and fancies, AIX will most certainly continue being a RUIN.

thegrapevine 23rd Aug 2012 07:24

The beauty of this organization is that noone knows exactly what is happening and what lies in the future. Sticking to the topic of recruitment, i have spoken to over a dozen employees of AI Express, some from the management and some even at the level of check pilots, but unfortunately everyone has given me a different picture. After talking to them i am not even able to deduce whether there is a crew shortage or they are overstaffed. Some say thatthere is an acute crew shortage and they need to hire asap, but due to the procedures and involvment of AI HR, and other officials its causing a delay which is also leading to cancellations of flights. On the contraray soMe suggest that they are overstaffed and pilots are not being utilized to their capacity and quite a few are just waiting to get online after their training and its been over a year that they have been sitting idle. I absolutely have no idea whom to believe and whom not to.:ugh::ugh:

Errr, welcome to the airline business, Grapevine. It's that way everywhere. AIE seems to be a little "above average" is the disorganization department, but it's all relative - and no offense intended. I just wish they were trying to pick up line pilot expats as well as TRI's.

I just wish they were trying to pick up line pilot expats as well as TRI's.

Still no closer to setting a date for assessments nor class dates.

About the only thing the Gebronies at AI EX are picking are the dingleberries out of their arses.

Air India Express faces shortage of 200 pilots

Air India Express, the international low-cost arm of the national carrier Air India, requires around 200 more pilots to ensure smooth operations and increase its fleet utilisation to 12 hours a day from around six hours now.

In a presentation to civil aviation minister Ajit Singh on Monday, the airline company has said that they currently have 46 sets or 108 pilots available and and will require 126 sets of pilots more. Around 100 pilots will join the airline soon after they finish their training, which they were subjected to because of the strike.

Taking note of the problem of low fleet utilisation, Singh has advised to induct pilots from Air India to sort out the problem of pilot shortage in the interim.

Taking a note of their problems, the minister has advised that 60 Air India pilots, who are currently being trained, should join the low-cost subsidiary immediately after the training. This will address a part of their shortage problem,” a senior civil aviation ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

The minister has also asked Air India Express to increase its fleet utilisation to 12 hours a day from 5.69 hours a day currently.

The low-cost carrier has 21 aircraft in its fleet — 17 owned and 4 leased — and operates 134 flights a week.

Great! We'll just change the schedule tomorrow!

And, oh yeah, at that level we need to hire 950 more mechanics ...

captjns 25th Aug 2012 06:00

Management can espouse all the rhetoric they desire.... The rags can print all the garbage they want. But again at the end of the day... nothing will happen... no assessments... no interviews... no hiring... no class dates... just plain old rhetoric.

tolip111111 29th Aug 2012 07:20

Rumours doing the rounds that AI express has started the recruitment process and have sent out call letters.. Anyone who has received the call letter for TR FO?? Can someone confirm?

http://www.airindiaexpress.in/Data/W...030MAR2012.pdf

List for the candidates is out and above is the link for the same. Exam is on the 22nd of september. Best of luck to all who are called.

tolip111111 2nd Sep 2012 05:23

Results would be declared the same day after the exam, and successful candidates will be required to stay back for document verification and psychometric evaluation the next day. Candidates who clear then will be called for interview/sim check.

Jet8 2nd Sep 2012 06:50

I wonder there so many B737NG type ratted pilots sitting home and only 37 pilots are sitting for the exam?

Does anyone know how many pilots are sitting home with 737 TR?

nevergiveup27 2nd Sep 2012 07:09

Jet8

The candidate list which you saw is the SC/ST/OBC category which is surprisingly a higher number according to what I had imagined ie 37.

Now, after their selection process I believe they will be conducting examination for General category for which my assumption is their will be around 210-250 odd Type rated candidates.:ok:

tolip111111 2nd Sep 2012 07:25

i dont think so for general category there will be more than 160-170 guys who will be called. Keep in mind that only people who had applied in march -may 2012 i.e when the advertisement was out are being called. I am sure a lot of people would have got their type rating endorsed between april and sept 2012 but unfortunately they will not be eligible. I guess that the examination for the general category candidates will only take place after 22nd september, safe bet maybe in the first week of november. I hope this time the recruitment will be a clean process!!

nevergiveup27 2nd Sep 2012 09:17

Tolip

Yes I maybe wrong on the figure but the last date to be applied for the post of Co-Pilot was extended to 11th June which gives enough margin for additional folks to chime in & apply for it;)

Tolip :- Have you applied for the same post too at AIX?

tolip111111 2nd Sep 2012 11:14

Nevergiveup27:

Yes i have applied and i hope we do get called soon.... as far as the advertisement goes, please go through point 7. Below is the extract from the advertisement. A friend of mine belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category did not get the call for the written test because on the 1st of April 2012 his DGCA licence didnt have the 737 endorsement. He got his endorsement in the last week of april. :ugh:There has been no confirmation on this, but he says this might be the only reason for him not getting the call....

7. HOW TO APPLY :
a) Applicants who are meeting with the eligibility criteria mentioned in this advertisement, as on April 01, 2012, are required to forward their applications, in the prescribed format, by post at the address given below. Eligible candidates only will be called for the Selection Process subsequently.
Chief of Operations
Air India Charters Limited
1st Floor, Old Operations Bldg.,
Old Airport, Kalina, Santa Cruz (East)
Mumbai – 400 029
b) Applications. superscribing on the envelope the “post applied : CAPTAIN / EXAMINER / INSTRUCTOR / CHECK-PILOT / CO-PILOT” in capital letters, should reach on or before JUNE 11, 2012.

nevergiveup27 2nd Sep 2012 14:25

Tolip:- Are you sure if that was the reason why your friend didn't got invited to sit for the examination. I am aware that they have they have that stipulation of eligibility criteria, but I mean why would they extend the date for applying for the post without changing the criteria? :ugh::ugh:

tolip111111 2nd Sep 2012 16:16

Nevergiveup

Bro that is what we are Speculating as for now. You cannot contactanybody regarding the matter because noone will answer and if they do they will not know what the hell you are talking about. Well they have a case, i mean they can decline your application because its clearly mentioned in the modified advertisement that you can only apply if you meet the requirements on 1st april. Which i know is really stupid, they come up with an advertisement in march and the examination takes placein september.. Thank god they din come up with a clause that you should be current during the recruitment drive...If that was the case then everyones candidature would have been rejected!!!!:}:ugh::{..... When did u get urtype endorsed.. Any info on wen we guys can be called or rather will we guys get called at all??

nevergiveup27 3rd Sep 2012 07:08

Spoke to the Hr today at AIX, & they have confirmed that the examination for General category candidates will be sometime in Nov.:ok:

tolip111111 3rd Sep 2012 07:50

Nevergiveup27:
spoke to the HR at AIX??? Waao!!! you must be one lucky person...:p:ok:. So did they give you a particular date or just November? I was speculating beginning of October... i guess its time to hit the FCOM's. Thanks for sharing the info.

nevergiveup27 3rd Sep 2012 08:18

Yes buddy it's a pain in the  to get to them but surprisingly the lady on the other side seemed very cooperative to answer our queries.

It will take 2-3 weeks for the 9th March applicants selection process and once that is done it's time for the real show to begin ie; the General category;).
Btw which city are you from Tolip?

thegrapevine 10th Sep 2012 16:50

Exam on the 22nd , results to be declared on the same day, psychometric evaluation the next day, again the results for the PE to be declared on the same day.. Well thats too efficient for my comfort taking into consideration that we are talking about AI..:ok:

nevergiveup27 11th Sep 2012 06:58

They have published a revised edition to the Selection process.

Minor changes include:-

- Shifting the Simulator Evaluation after Personal Interview

-Psychometric Evaluation will be either FIT or UNFIT & will not be counted towards the Final merit list.

-Charges for Simulator Flight Proficiency Test will be Rs. 10,000/

KOCHI: Aiming to increase the strength of pilots for optimum utilisation of its fleet strength, the Air India Express today decided to recruit 50 pilots, 30 commanders and 30 co-pilots within one year.

Shortage of commanders was the main issue discussed at the board meeting of the budget airlines here, chaired by Rohit Nandan, Chairman and Managing Director of Air India and AIE chairman.

Nandan told reporters that of the AIE's requirement of 252 pilots, there are presently only 186 pilots and 60 are undergoing training.

Nandan said the AI and AIE will function as separate entities. AIE has to be on its own.

Earlier, pilots were being hired from AI on deputation to the AIE. The deputation period would be reduced and AIE will have to be on its own, he said.

"The umbilical chord between Air India and Air India Express will have to severed," he said, adding, AIE should have its own pilot force.

Fourteen new aircraft will be added to AIE's fleet strength in a three-year period. Presently, the airlines has 21 aircraft of which 17 are available at any point of time.

On AIE plans to launch domestic flights, Nandan said Air India wants AIE also to operate in the domestic sector.

"We want them to supplement our services that will happen only if the strength of pilots is augmented," he said.

There would be increase in the salary of pilots, captains, trainers working conditions and emoluments would be comparable to the best in the industry of existing pilots.

"In order to use the fleet of AIE optimally, the board discussed the issue of shortage of commanders. It was decided to take necessary measures to improve emoluments and working conditions to make it comparable with the best industry standards. This will ensure the continued service of existing commanders", Ansbert D'souza COO, AIE and Captain Pushpinder Singh, Deputy COO, AIE told reporters after the board meeting.

As part of its efforts to cut the umbilical cord from parent company Air India Charters Ltd, Air India Express will soon launch the hunt for a chief executive officer (CEO) for the airline.

The airline will publish advertisements to find the right person to steer the company, that will undergo a major revamp in the next five years.

Headed by a chief operating officer (COO), the Air India Express has never had a CEO. According to the airline authorities, the post of the CEO has been created with an aim to make the company independent from Air India.

The decision to appoint a CEO was taken at a meeting convened by Civil Aviation Secretary K N Srivastava at the Air India Express headquarters here.

The meeting was attended by Air India chairman Rohit Nandan, director board member K M Unni and heads of various departments of Air India Express.

“Appointing a CEO is a major step towards becoming an independent company. Presently, the company is being headed by the chief operating officer (COO).

“The newly appointed CEO will be vested with more powers so that the airline can function as an independent entity,” the airline authorities said.

“Air India chairman will continue as the chairman of Air India Express, even if a new CEO is appointed,” they added.

Srivastava has given instructions to start the operations of the headquarters here from January 1.
