JAA a320 type rating renewal in SE Asia?
 

Hey everybody
I am working in the Philippines on my JAA a320 at Cebu Pacific.
My TR will expire soon and I am therefor looking to renew.

I tried calling OAA in Hong Kong. They say their simulators are not JAA approved!

I am waiting reply from CAE in Kuala Lumpur..

Now since I fly the skies with Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific I hear a lot of English accents. Can not believe they all go home to England to do renewals.

If anybody knows about a JAA approved TRTO in SE Asia please let me know.

The A320 in Singapore, at Alteon, is JAA approved.....

Alteon no longer exists. It is now Boeing Training and Flight Services if you are searching for it. The simulator in Singapore is approved but they do not have any examiners so you would have to find someone to do the ride for you there.

I need an A320 EASA renewal as well. Anybody knows any TRE in Singapoure or Bangkok I could do it with? I guess Hongkong or Philipines sim are still not EASA.

One tip, check with JATC in Jakarta. They are EASA approved for both A320 and B737NG. Check www.jatc.aero Prices are reasonable and the are also approved by the Philipines. Hotels are nearby.

COCKPIT PRO - excellence in aviation training in Singapore using the JAA aproved A320 sim in Boeing Training Center. They have several JAA TREs based in Singapore, I definitely recommend this TRTO. Really nice people to deal with.

I renewed my JAA/EASA 320 a little over a month ago and was researching the same stuff.

1) Cockpit-pro... spoke to them - heard good things about them also. Problem is, so I was told... they can't do renewals under the new EASA regs for UK licence holders anymore (or at the moment) - so if you're a UK licence holder as I am, not an option. Think if you got your licence under another JAA/EASA state you might be ok - but you'll need to check with them.

2) I believe Alpha Aviation's new A320 sim in Clark is EASA certified (i've seen the certificate somewhere on their facebook page - dig back through the history). Not sure if they have an EASA examiner though, certainly when I was there all the instructors and examiners were Filipino as they cater for the Philippine market, although the Head of Training is English I think. Thus you'd have to fly someone over and pay their expenses, unless they happen to be around anyway. Also the rates for the sim didn't seem competitive.

Decided to go back to the UK in the end - combine with a hol and also so I could head down to the CAA to sort out the licence personally.

Anyway - the Jakarta thing sounds good for future ref and if there's anyone kicking about who wants to partner up for a 320 renewal in future let me know, May - July is when I renew.

Difference between FAA,CASA, AND JAA/EASA

An aviation noob here who wishes to know more about what's the difference between an FAA vs CASA vs JAA/EASA license. Btw, JAA & EASA are the same right?

Bananaman, try EAA in BKK, have approved EASA simulator on ATO for renewal and training.

Depending on your authority, If they will accept, now clearly established by the CAA UK IN.04.2014, that if you are current on foreign license, and that you do not need any refresher training. Then, you may, have your authority approve the assessment of the TRE, who is by definition an assessor of your experience, and must assess, whether he is working for ATO or not.

Therefore, if the authority accepts that no further training is needed, and accepts the assessment of the TRE, then it follows that no ATO need assess the experience of the applicant for renewal. As the function of ATO is to conduct EASA approved structured training.

The opposite of the CAA UK is AESA ES, who will not accept any foreign experience and will require you to have all your supporting documents Notarized at the Embassy, and then follow the guidelines of EASA of 1 sim session of assessment and 1 per year of lapsed Rating. Seems that the fact that it is EU law makes no difference but to entrench the various authorities even more behind their Counters!
