Hi all

Please share your experiences about training for type rating abroad. Which centre has gained reputation in India? Which ones are to be avoided like the plague?

Those who have completed their training from various centres abroad please post a testimonial for the benefit of those who are planning of undertaking self-sponsored type Ratings.

There is a small locally run TRTO in Sri Lanka called South Asia Aviation Services (SAAS) who are offering type ratings using the new A320 sim in Sri Lanka.

There isn't much info on their website but they do have a fan page on F.....book which you can check out. :)

Between CAE and Cocpit4U which is better training in terms of quality and value for money.


I have also heard about Oxford Aviation based in Sweden. Any recommendations for them?

CAE is the way to go....OAA is also providing decent training....Cockpit4u is not that great....
But make sure you are in touch with the people who have already got a type rating. The scenario with them is not that great.

Check out the record... AAG is very good and accepted by DGCA. CAE and Cockpit 4u, mm.. maybe... but AAG is flexible and trained 140 plus students for india market.

I trained at OAA, Stockholm this year on the A320. Not a bad word to say about the place. Great service, instruction and after service. Id highly recommend this school to anybody

Hey guys.

M planning to go for type rating , but i heard that the number of simulator hours provided by the TRTOs are not sufficient to fulfil the DGCA requirements...and we gonna have to pay extra for that ,;)
can some one please tell me that where can i find the DGCA's requirements ??:rolleyes:

Thanks to everyone who suggested various organisations.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the concept of pairing a partner for the sim sessions.

Why is one student/instructor combination not offered. Is it a means to make the training componenet more time effective(cost effective)

Are there any centres where they do not pair you with a partner.

At the end of the course are we qualified as F/O on type in either case. Can someone please clarify my doubts and thanks in advance.

PS: Any recommendation for RJ flight academy. I know that their equipments are brand new and modern and among the best in the world. I wouldnt be too concerned about the infrastructure there or thier personal resources but what about the instructors they employ. Afterall it is the quality of instruction that can make or break one's experience at any flyinng school, as I found out from my training for CPL.

I heard someone say that that a centre located in Istanbull, Turkey is one of the best in the world but I cannot recall the name of that training centre.

Who will be conducting this route check for P2. The company TRTO? Please clarify someone.

Because you need to complete PF and PM duties. Overall you complete the DGCA required sim hours. Even if it was okay you'd still need to do the same hours and so there is no efficiency saving.

Note only those TRTOs that specify they deliver DGCA training are good for you. The DGCA requires far more than a standard JAA/EASA course.

My advice - go where the airlines go, regardless of aircraft type. For example, Jet Airways trains at Alpha Aviation on the 737 but they also conduct many Indian A320 TRs and the students are very happy! Its not about cost, its about value for money!

Thanks for the suggestion RR, I am definitely considering Alpha Aviation Group.

Any idea who their instructors will be if I chose the UAE centre. I dont want to sound racist by saying this, but I prefer European/English instructors.

OAA and AAG are definitely value for money and quality TRTO's. so, which type you are opting for B737 or A320??

i think alpha aviation people have more of marketing staff then 320 and 737 instructors.
all i can say is one of my best friends got selected at jet airways, batch 1 and she had been sent to alpha aviation for her type rating. she was not at all satisfied, they hardly have 1/2 simulators and lots of students.
so please go wisely because you will be spending around 18lacs of your family at a situation when the type rated guys also have to sweat it out and jobs are not easy for them to come by.
there are many good TRTO's across the globe and they need no introduction.
so please do your R&D and invest more time.
and alpha aviation guys you have advertised enough, every time a student asks anything about TR on any of the threads, you guys just pop in and post links, if you are good people will reach you, do not worry.

There was a time not too long ago when 737 rated pilots were in demand. And it was considered the prudent thing to do to opt for 737NG if you were doing a self-sponsored training.

Then just as quickly as the fad started, the tables were turned and everyone started getting 320 ratings. With the present scenario which aircraft is it wiser to go for. considering factors such as number of type rated pilots of each type, future orders of aircraft, ratio of aircraft in service to type rated pilots etc?

Oh dear... 9FLYJET9... you should not believe all you hear!

Yes, there is one sim at Alpha UK but it is heaving full with Jet work. Jet wouldn't be there if they weren't happy. 150+ successful Indian students (type rating and Upgrades) in 1 and a half years speaks a huge amount! Of course, there are always some who might be unhappy but think ... was about the training company or the student! I probably know the answer! :)

Further, your comment about sims is irrelevant - Cockpit 4u, for example, have none!
