Air Asia pilot selection

Can anybody help?

I'm due to attend an assessment process next month, can anybody who has recently gone through the process give a heads up as to the tech paper (written or multi-choice?) Also the interview, sim profile etc..

Please PM if you prefer.

Many thanks JS

Hi,

Day 1. Company introduction, tour of the Air Asia academy, Sims, CBT, FBT. Tech paper questions multi choice. CRM group ex. Package. Q&A session.
Day 2. Interview with two Capt, no HR department or physco stuff.
Day 3. Sim, quick brief and a little LOFT, we all seamed to get different stuff (five of us) mix of current capts and high hour f/o's going for DEC positions, rated and non-rated.

Great people, no traps or tricks. One of the more memorable interviews of my career, I really enjoyed it. However its true I am currently employed and was not desperately looking to leave, Im not being a tw.t about it - its just a fact.

You have seen the other threads on AA re pay roster ect also ppjn they are still valid, as is the bond 5 years decreasing after 3. I cannot remember what it is but its quite a lot.

One thing I did not realize is that they have 4 bases in Malaysia, KL, Penang, and two in East Malaysia.

The offer if they want you comes about 3 weeks after the three day assessment. They then apply for your work visa for you, which takes another 2-4 weeks, you then get offered a choice of start dates and a contract.

Have a look, but unless you a familiar with the place spend a week or so there with your other half (if so), a new country, environment, culture, as you know is going to be one of the biggest challenges.

Hi Slick

Nice post!

Do you know the basic T&Cs for A330 DEC?
I'm high time B777 Capt with previous A320 exp., how much is the bond?

Just out of curiosity: why you bother travel to the other side of the earth, go for an interview if not interested in the job?...

Brgds,

FF

I did not say I was not interested, just that I was in a fortunate position, and maybe did not have the same pressures as others during that particular interview.

I went halfway round the world, liked it and said yes by the way.

To my knowledge? they don't take DEC A330/340.

if u check in aeroprofessional.com there's ad for 330/340 operator recruiting both fo and capt in southeast asia (definitely AAX) about 3 months ago. from what i ve heard, the pay on 320 is better than 330/340.

I'd like to know hows the interview like for Capt wihout prior command? i m getting near to their min req and will be applying soon. Thanks

Slick,
thanks for the prompt reply , very concise. Seems a fairly straight forward process they have in place - I look forward to going out there next month. I note what you say about the culture etc, fortunatly I've lived out that way previously so hopefulluy no great shocks. Good luck with your start date.

Is there a maximum age for Direct Entry non type rated Airbus Pilots?

volare_737 22nd Jun 2011 07:53

I went for interview in April and they said they just increased the age from 60 to 62. Still gives them 3 years - sounds like they are happy with that.

I would like to hear from any Air Asia pilots what your duty hours vs block hours are per month?

As a comparison I am a captain with Qatar on A320 and my block hours are on average 75 hours/month, but my duty hours are roughly double that at 150 hours.

As you can see this is quite inefficient, and involves long ground turnarounds, sometimes over three hours, and in the middle of the night to give the job that extra feeling of emptiness. No walk in the park (or the desert).

Just curious to hear from you guys what an average month implies.

(Someone will now be itching to claim 95 block hours/month in QR, but please, I'm talking average over the whole year.)

Hi Kwaliyai,

are you with AA, if so what have these bases got that make them better than KL or Panang?

from what i ve heard, the pay on 320 is better than 330/340.
That's because you do more hours and more sectors on the 320.

Cheaper beers and friendlier girls....:E

You can expect an average of 80hrs block and duty of 130hrs....All thanks to turnaround of 25mins....:D
