Tiger Airways - The Fact Thread
After the thread about Tiger Airways Singapore has been closed, there is sadly no platform for factual information about it anymore. I'm willing to inform.
Let me state first that I'm not from Tiger, that I have very good ties to some of their pilots and that I flew for them a few years ago. 1. Recruitment of FOs: No, at the moment they don't want FOs. They need Captains, rated, current, under the known conditions. 2. Singaporian License conversion You need to have a valid license, this will be checked thoroughly. Mostly you need a confirmation letter from your country's air authority confirming that everything is in order. You need to proof that you have done the "human performance" chapter in your ATPL course. In SIN you need to sit in for two tests: Singapore Air Law and A320 theoretical technical knowledge. Tiger will support you in learning for this tests. Please don't send me PMs, because I cannot respond to them all. Should you need to know more, you can ask your question here and I or others will try to answer. Moderators, please don't kill such threads, because this is not helpful, better suspend those lousy posters (you have done it with me for much weaker reasons!) and delete their posts. Cheers, Dani |
WoW - that thread really did go into orbit!:E

well, I prefer a calm dry thread to a useless, emotional, exacerbated runt of two ignorant super-egos...
This thread safes me at least two dozend PMs and mails. So it serves the purpose. Cheers, Dani |
Dani, has the pay changed much since you left :}
http://www.tigerairways.com/news/Tig...ys_Summary.pdf |
I think you want to get out of the factual thing again but I can tell you: The pay hasn't changed, unless you are signing the agency's contract.
Pay was pretty similar when I started, it went down around 10% and is now the same again. On top of the condition you mentioned, there is also a pension scheme for permanent residents (which you are free to apply after a year or so?). What has increased are the cost of living since then. During my three years I've been there, housing has basically doubled. You get 3000$ housing with one of the agency, which should cover a reasonable apartment. You also have to consider that cost of living is varying widely, depending on your way of living. If you go out and drink alcohol regularly, SIN is a quite expensive place. On the other hand, if you like local food, you get away very cheaply. I was able to safe a considerable amount of my salary. Most of it I left there, since the S$ will most probably appreciate against western currencies. It's pegged against several Asian currencies and US. If the Yuan is going up, the Singi will, too. Open for other well considered questions... Dani |
Tiger Airways posts $14.1m profit
Imagine blaming the hardware?
From the very Straight Times by Ting Tong; DESPITE bad publicity over pilot resignations and an aircraft fault leading to flight disruptions and cancellations, Tiger Airways came through with a $14.1 million profit in the quarter ended Sept 30, reversing the loss of a year earlier. The profit, against a $2.3 million loss recorded in the same July to September period last year, was on the back of a 35.4 per cent jump in turnover from $106 million to $143.5 million. This outstripped passenger growth of 25.4 per cent, the budget carrier reported on Tuesday. Tiger Airways, which is based in Singapore and Australia, carried 1.43 million passengers in the three months to Sept 30, compared with 1.14 million a year earlier. It hit turbulence in August when a wave of pilot resignations forced it to cancel numerous flights out of Singapore. A few weeks later, there were more cancellations; over 40 flights were axed in four days because of an aircraft fault. :8:8:8 |
You will find that the Tiger spin doctors lied about the cancellations. Two u/s aircraft does not equal 40 flights. Once again, the pilot shortage is responsible for the delays. I am surprised that airbus have not jumped on the bandwagon and demanded to know why their aircraft have been blamed for these delays. It cannot leave them feeling happy having the delays and cancellations blamed on their product. Once again, Tiger management have proven themselves to be the most craven liars!

Tiger has no cadet programme
it's published in the local papers the flights had been cancelled due to lack of pilots true or not, we don't really know |

HI GUYS
does anyone have the contact for the CHIEF PILOT OF TIGER AUSTRALIA. Thanks |
Dani was Tony Davis already there when you were flying with Tiger? Just recently the Rosalynn Tay the MD of Singapore left Tiger Airways. Replaced by Stewart Adams from Bmi Regional. March this year Tony hired Crawford Rix to head its Australian operations. CR used to head Bmibaby. Seems to me that Tiger Airways turning into BMI.
Can anyone tell me: 1) Is TD well liked by the pilots and the crew? Any comments on TD? 2) Anyone can tell me about Stewart Adams and Crawford Rix? Thanks! |

Obviously, Ms. Tay can't take it. She knew something was wrong with Tiger Airways. Otherwise, she won't leave the company. [link]

1) Is TD well liked by the pilots and the crew? Any comments on TD? Is that some sort of joke.. Nope its not some kind of joke. I've read in other threads and posts that the pilots are actually very unhappy with TD and his in-your-face attitude. Even described pilots as high class bus drivers. Just wanted to make sure that it is actually the case that's happening on ground and not some disgruntled pilot complaints. This is actually quite important because ultimately regardless of Tiger's successful low cost model or fleet size increase, it all depends on experienced pilots to fly them. If pilots are unhappy with management, they will jump to another airline without regards. To me, pilots are actually the main assets of an airline. That's why I want to find out if ill-management is causing the recent pilot exodus from Tiger. If the pilots are not happy then it is very likely the talent bleed will continue. |
Stewart Adams was MD of bmi regional.
And everybody was pleased when they heard he was moving on. The DFO at regional is off too, so if you get both, good luck! Lifestyle, salary and crew numbers will all be under threat. D and F :8 |
guys is there anyway you can upgrade the regular pilots of seair in the philippines to your airbus319 partnership with seair
