DGCA NOC for Boeing 737 Type rating

Dear Friends,

I applied to DGCA for an NOC for carrying out boeing 737 NG type rating training, along with my friend.
We are scheduled to start training within 2 weeks.

However just 2 days back ie friday, I went to DGCA and learnt that my request for NOC was rejected as my IR was lapsed.

can someone please guide me on what to do ?

what do other candidates do while joining airlines in India ?

can I go ahead with my training and do an IR check in USA with an FAA examiner ?

Thanks

i would recommend u to renew your ir in india itself
matter of a week and u can get your ir renewed

Capt_Lsd 27th Jun 2010 17:52

I don't know why they didn't approve it,,because there's some one out here on pprune that said he/she got a NOC in spite of the IR not being current..

CaptDG 28th Jun 2010 05:06

hey, where are you planning to get your Boeing type rating? I am also looking into it so any info on this would be helpful.

also, my IR lapsed about 18 months ago. do i still need to fly only a 45 min FAM flight and a 45 min IR check? help would be much appreciated.

thanks
DG

hey pls tell me also if it wud be a problem for getting the noc from dgca.

i submitted my application for noc on boeing 737 last week with my friend for training in CAE dubai. i tried to ask a few people there but they did not seemed to know the right answer to this.

my guess is that the renewal must be done in india or in abroad before starting the course with dgca examiner or examiner of the country you are going for training.

pls if anyone knows about this do let us know.

vinny15 28th Jun 2010 14:29

@alphapilot

I think that it should not be a problem of not having ir current.
If a IR check is done in the type rating then it should be sufficeint.
Anyway I have asked a few people to try and confirm about this issue, but I dont think we need to worry about it yet.

hey, I also was initially planning on CAE Dubai after looking at CAE bangalore, but now we decided to go to Panam.

so, almost everyone is going for a boeing 737 rating huh ?

me and my friends are just hoping and keeping fingers crossed that our money does not go waste after spending so much !!! :ugh:
good luck guys.

jatt_pilot 28th Jun 2010 17:48

3 cheers for jet :)

btw any 1 with a fee structure for the 737 TR from panam or / and cae
would be grateful

shakti8405 29th Jun 2010 12:16

hi everyone...
i think there will be a problem after taking this rating...B737 IR will lapse in 6 months....for getting job again you have to renew it....and it will cost around 1-1.5 lakhs.....
And Panam doesn't know all the paper works required for DGCA....i think CAE is better option..
I m also planning for CAE Amsterdam

revtech 29th Jun 2010 21:14

how much is CAE charging for a 737 type ?

suryakant311 30th Jun 2010 11:19

Yes that is correct. They will not issue you NOC if your IR has lapsed. And even if you'll get NOC without IR renewal, they may put you in problem when you come back to DGca for 737 endorsement.
I recommend if you get Noc from DGCa by chance without IR renewal then don't forget to do IR check abroad or in india before applying for 737 endorsement.

And then you can apply for both in DGCa(i.e IR renewal and 737 endorsement.)
:ok:
Thanks.

"how can you give a check ride ...on 737 when your ir has lapsed ..."

I guess most TRTOs require a current IR as a prerequisite and therefore DGCA requires one to have a current IR in order to issue the NOC.

Air India never asks for a current IR while hiring (non-type rated) pilots , how do those guys get their NOC ?

and this is from the DGCA website

"4. Extension of Instrument Rating— For extension of Instrument Rating to include an additional type of aeroplane, an applicant shall be required to produce evidence of having satisfactorily completed the flight test in accordance with para 1(e) in respect of the type of aeroplane for which the extension of Instrument Rating is desired. The flight test shall have been
completed within a period of six months immediately preceding the date of application for the extension of Instrument Rating."

and this is para 1(e):
"(e) Skill— He shall have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Examiner his
competency to fly an aeroplane in respect of which Instrument Rating is desired, solely with the aid of instruments by undergoing an instrument flying test within a period of six months immediately preceding the date of application for the rating. The flying test shall be carried out in accordance with the syllabus as prescribed by the Director-General. The Director-General may, however, allow such tests or part thereof to be carried out on an approved simulator for the type of aircraft."

and here's what DGCA has to say about IR renewal (from the same document)

" 3. Renewal— The Instrument Rating may be renewed on receipt of satisfactory evidence of the applicant :
(a) having satisfactorily completed the Instrument Rating Flight Test as laid down in para 1(e).
(b) having a valid Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s Licence issued by the
Director-General for operation of radio telephone apparatus on board an aircraft. "

The requirement for having a current IR is not mentioned anywhere under 'Extension of Instrument Rating'.

the way I see it, DGCA is just trying to filter out applications, for having a current IR on C152 or a light twin has nothing to do with getting an IR on 737...

They dont! All their Training (Incl. the Type) is done in-house, right here in India!:ok:

hey guys,

Do i need a DGCA NOC for doing a type rating if i do NOT have an Indian CPL but I have a FAA license and want to do the DGCA Type Boeing 737 in the USA and once done get the license done and put it on the Certificate. I am almost done with my RTR(Permit) as i have Canadian CPL and Canadian RT and I have my FAA CPL and FAA RT too. Just need to pass the CPL conversion this attempt - fingers crossed on the stupid exam. :ugh::ugh:

Just out of curiosity for all you guys buying your type ratings.

If the airline you guys were aiming for starts asking for 100 hours in type would you consider paying for it?

If the same airline asks you to work for 6 months without pay , would you still sign up?

What if the airline offers you a job making 1000 USD a month and 4 days off with recurrent training on days off and then if you are eligible for upgrade to pay for your captain training, would you still sign up?

I am just curious as to how far one would go to get an airline job these days.

Also, remember that this is a very slippery slope. Once you guys start paying and buying types, it wont be long before the above mentioned things come true.

sierra_november 5th Jul 2010 18:57

A very good post by Picollo.

@ optimus

I know a couple of guys who were sent to CAE Dubai by Air India Express (in 2008) for their 737 type rating.

SuperflyTNT 5th Jul 2010 23:06

@Picollo

Very well said.

I wish pilots understand it and act accordingly. It is just depressing to see this sudden burst in pilots rushing to get their type rating done! Nothing wrong, their time. money and what ever else that is involved. But, it's another way of giving in to the pressure created by these airlines!

But we should also remember, desperate needs call for desperate measures !

picollo 6th Jul 2010 06:23

Believe it or not, quite a few of us were in your shoes.

Job hunting in aviation is not for the weak of heart. But if you persist , you will get there.

Paying for your job is only going to lower the terms and conditions in the future.
Look at Air asia, bahrain air, Easyjet, Ryan. This is going to be India's future.

You start paying now for type ratings, next thing you know you will be paying for your recurrent sims.

Pulkdahulk 6th Jul 2010 07:20

See TNT,

All those above mentioned words by others are the truth and India is a useless country when it comes to these. There is no place for talent or skill or ability. Who you know, how you know and what you can do to get in. I cannot recall how many actually got in the last 2 years by MERIT. They had a inside connection or have worked on the Aircraft before or something related.

Air India have jobs openings - One useless company to even work for. Corrupted Management coupled with politics. Useless service in first class. The international segment is good. But with RBI now splitting with SBI Bank, and India is the only place where such airlines have such huge debt, I cannot but see them have problems in the next 5 yrs with fiscal budgeting. It may look good 3-4 years, but give it the end of the 4th year and you will SEE problems.

Jet Airways - Okay - we have been hearing many news that Openings are coming. No Influence or nothing of that sort- Are you seriously kidding me? No influence - So everyone tells me that all those Politicians or their relatives will go stand behind the line just like all the sincere CPL holders " Get in line" sort of deal and get a job!!!

Air India hired batch of students for their ab-initio training. They are still stuck doing ab-initio. They are doing it at Fly Orlando Flight Training, KISM, Florida. How do I know? I work close by - If those guys are stuck doing their training - they are about 9 months backlogged, these new hirings coming along - What is their Future???

Indigo is doing good for themselves. One Airline you have to appreciate their way of doing Business.

Spice jet is getting back on track.

Kingfisher Airlines- Others may comment - I have no clue from the inside.

Many just cannot digest this fact - In this economy at this very moment -there are many suppliers (Us) than demands (Positions) - as such, the ball of decision making is with the Airlines, not with US.

It holds good that we should know what aircraft we are going to fly for definite reasons before we venture into a type - and that is what many conclude to doing Airbus - because its plentiful in India. Now that is wrong decision making. I would suggest people doing Jet Transition rather than a Type.

:ok:
