My History , To be First officer in CHINA
 
Hello my name is XINHUEI. I am Chinese , but I'm grown up in SPAIN , I have already finished on January my ATPL integrated course in Madrid with 160 Hr, so my license is JAR-FCL.

Well , I´m looking for 4 mounths in many companies and Type Ratings school who can help me to get a job there, but unsuccessfully.I know in China need many Captains, but I dont have the minimun experience , what can I do?? I only want to get my first job , and get some experience. I dont care about the salary, I just want a job.


I´m really dissapointed , any information will be appreciated.

Hello XINHUEI,

If you think that a Chinese airline will offer employment to low time Mandarin speaking (or Chinese) non-PRC pilot, you are wrong. Current Chinese airliners do not need these people other than Captain.

I am sorry to smash your dream, for your case, do not dream to get into any Chinese airline within the next 5 years, unless you have "cable" connection. Chinese airline is still working way slow.

F.Y.I.,
1. There are more qualified Mandarin speaking applicants (pilots) from Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
2. There are many Mandarin speaking non-PRC F.I. working with flying schools in China (tieing with Airline).

Do more social networkings! Link your facebook or friendster, people get first hand news from networking.

Chinese airlines would rather pay a P.R.C. citizen out of university to go training abroad than take in people from abroad like us (example: shandong airlines signing 200 university graduates recently for pilot training).

I still don't know how you finished in 160 hours as the usual modular course in UK is 250 hours to finish average. But your hours are too low, so you should go and build up some hours or go and get a type rating, I have found that chinese flight schools like people to have TR and some hours on there logbooks. Last resort: Pay eaglejet to get you a TR and hours. Or else go and get an FI rating and teach in spain or fly in africa.

Hi brain !!! My course was ATPL frozen Integrated Course , with 160 hours. The minimun to get FI now is 150 Hrs integrated . I know it´s not enough , but now i dont have more money to pay for a Type Rating or to get more hours in USA ...


Maybe wasn´t great idea to became a pilot...........

Cry baby...:} Are you a senor or senorita???? Coz, if you are a senorita then there are jobs around..I'd say its much more easier for you to get a job in europe than china.. Anyway, did you try cathay pacific cadet program,dragon air etc...

Also, I presume you speak fluent spanish. There are a couple of scenic flight jobs here and there in peru.. Call them up or turn up with your CV..

Anyway, goodluck with your jobhunt.:ok:

Brain, Integrated JAR-FCL CPL ME/IR is below 250hours.

If I am not wrong, United States flying school flying adopting FAA part 141 training syllabus for CPL ME/IR, the flying hours are below 250.

Most R.O.C. airlines prefer the own national applicant graduate under part 141. :}

Believe it not, there are surplus of low-time pilots around nowadays. Almost saturating in most part of Asia.

It may be crude to say the Cathay Pacific and Dragon Air prefer the "white" to join. Though they are based in Hong Kong, their Flight Operations (including Flight Ops recruitment) are under control by the "whites". I hate to say this, but, it is true. :ugh:

So, I guess, XINHUEI might be standing at disadvantage if he were to apply. :=

If XINHUEI is a Hong Kee, grown up in Australia, speaks real slang Queen's English, he might be able to stand a good chance entering Cathay Pacific and/or Dragon Air as a pilot. ;)

Oxford integrated graduates come out with over 200 hours, I think somthing like 230 hours if I'm not wrong (though averagely some do go over, I know a few). Anyway I know that its more about quality than quantity, but i'lld be very reluctant to know my first officer in the front flying me to china only has 160 hours on his logbook, flying to me is about experience, even though I am low houred aswell.

Thornycactus: Yes I know from previous experience chinese flight schools like to send cadets to Part 141 approved flight schools in the U.S., but the flight school I worked with aimed at putting there cadets at 200 hours. Though many went alot of, well some were lucky to even go back to P.R.C with 250 hours (there weren't many). I've even heard of a guy (a cadet from the school) being in the U.S. for 2-3 years and still not able to get off the ground because of his english abilities.

Cathay may be an option, but it is very competitive. I've heard of quite a few guys with jet experience (quite a few hours) going in as SO, but if you do get in the rewards are very good.

Anyway if all comes to 0, go and get an office job or somthing first. Actually my first job was working in an office for an airline, there I got to know a few main guys within the airline, and thats probably where your connections start. While getting a salary you can save for a TR or FI rating, or you can even start an FI rating while working, depends on your committments and salary I guess...

Anyway last reccommendation: Get your ass off that chair that your sitting on now looking at the computer screen. Get a flight to china, pack you logbook and license e.t.c., remember to get a criminal check certificate before you go. Then go to china and phone call or directly go to the schools or airlines to talk to them and hand in you C.V. Thats what I had to do, there was actually once I was sitting in a sweating bus full of people to get to a school in the hot summer, just to hand in my C.V. and speak to them personally, they did end up giving me a chance provisionally, but required a very very long contract and some money for deposit. So I didn't go with the job in the end.

Anyway being a pilot isn't a relaxing job as most think of it, you need to go out and find that job...

Maybe the only chance for me now, is get a flight to China , like BRIAN304 said. But the way, i will mantaining informed in this Website.

Hey Xinheui

Its good that your going to china to try it out, but try and use all your connections over there, it may help. And bring some money as you might be staying there for a while, as if you do get a job they have somthing called provisional time, which by its name you get tried out for month or 2 with getting very little pay or no pay at all. If after that time there happy with your performance they'll sign you on for a contract.

Anyway i'm going out to china soon aswell after writing my dissertation, which will be in a few weeks time. Keep me posted, maybe rod will be of some help if you reply to his email.
