ANA Pilot Gloves
 

Hi everyone, I would like to find out from the ANA pilots in the community whether is it possible to procure a pair of the white leather pilot gloves that the ANA pilots wear when they're flying, and if so, how I can go about getting a pair.

I know any ordinary pair of gloves will do to prevent sweat on your palms from transferring to the control column but I figured that since the Japanese airlines apparently custom make these for flying, I might as well get them instead of buying a pair from the neighbourhood hardware store.

Of course, everybody knows that wearing white leather gloves makes you fly better. Which is why I had to wear leather flying gloves for 16 years when I was an RAF pilot!

Why ANA white gloves??

The way things are going you might be able to pick up a couple of hundred dozen boxes of JAL gloves - just think...a new pair for EVERY SECTOR, you'll be the envy of the other crew members.

The ANA gloves are issued through the company...really nice. Hard to get if you don't work for ANA or know someone in the company. JAL does not mandate the use of gloves, but most wear them.

Walk across the rice paper without a dent, pick up the burning brass pot, stick your burn't arms in the snow and I'll post you a pair!

I know of 2 places that you can buy then.

First, the aviation museum shop on the 5th floor of Terminal 1 in NRT sells them.

Second, there is a very small pilot shop in tokyo that sells them and has a website. –P•¶�‘—Ñ�o”Ŕ̔„ . They are about 5,700 Yen and the largest size is 27cm. I believe they are at the Shimbashi stop in Tokyo and their website says they have internet ordering available, but my Kanji isn't good enough to figure out what they are trying to say.

Can someone explain the need to wear white gloves please. I cant see any benefit from this bizarre need..

Because every one from the security gaurd, to the taxi driver, to the train driver, to the train conductor and on and on, wears white gloves. Therfore in the interests of conformity the airline pilot must wear them as well. Of course airline pilots in Japan, being so well respected, get nice leather ones instead of cotton.
Other than that there is no benefit for them. Although my left one makes a damn goog golf glove:hmm:

I never wore them before coming here, but I actually have grown quite attached to them. Can't really offer any explanation as to why though.

Sony, unfortunately I don't know anyone working for ANA so it looks like I'll have to get them through some other way. Would you happen to be working for them? :)

Try to use the google translator to find the gloves on the website. I have been to the shop before and the guy speaks some English so you might be able to call him. I would imagine u could arrange to buy some from him by contacting him through email.

I work at Air Japan which is a subsidiary of ANA.

The shop sells its stuff via Rakuten. The Tokyo office is 2nd floor of the COI Shimbashi West building: it's not obvious. From the station exit nearer Yurakucho (i.e. the front of trains going clockwise around the Yamanote), walk towards Hibiya Dori, but turn left one block before reaching it. The street lights have a "half train wheel" theme. Walk to Family Mart. Go back three or 4 buildings :-) The building is next door but one to a strange thin building with round windows. Probably easier to buy via Rakuten!

So very true. I walked past the shop probably about 5 times before I could find it. Definitely a hole in the wall. Thanks for giving the correct stop too.
