Air Asia. Is it Commutable?
Hello everyone
Just wondering if working for Air Asia is it possible to commute to Australia. Is it possible to have block time off or can you request days off to make it possible? Any advice would be great. |
A simple answer is "NO". A typical A320 roster would be 3 days ON,3 days OFF and 3 days ON 2 days OFF. I am not sure about A330/A340's rosters.

if you work for Indonesia Air Asia, based in Bali, it's a commutable schedule, as long as you can responsible for your own rest period. It's a 4 ON 2-3 OFF , or 3-3 schedule..:ok:

Commuting is a bit of a long shot but you could make it home 1-2 times a month for a few days.
Rosters don't follow any conceivable pattern right now - you can get any combination between 5 and 2 on or off in a row. S. |
ringer2008, yes you can.
Mid last year Operations introduced a bidding system in which you can request for 5 days consecutive days off once a month. The scheme is via email and sent to the rosterers starting every 28th of the month for a roster in a months time. For a March roster, bids are sent out starting 28th Jan till 2nd Feb. First come first serve. Quite a good scheme if you ask me. A Captain here has his family in Perth and arranges with the rosterers to work (hard) for 3 weeks then gets a week off to go back to Perth. With AirAsia X servicing Perth daily, it works out quite well for him. |
I hear Air Asia is going to be doing daily flights to the Gold Coast from KL around April? Is this true.
And if you are able to commute do you have to pay for your own ticket or can you jump seat with air asia? |
You can't have the cake and have it all mate! :=
Remember its a low cost outfit.. ;) |
You can jumpseat home with AirAsia (AK/QZ/FD) but not AirAsia X (D7) where ID90 fare applies.

Thank you for the roster info!
Three more questions if I may: 1. I don't know if salary is function of experience. With 1500 hrs regional jet PIC and 6000+ Boeing F/O, what T§C can I expect? 1b. What about income taxe (different at diffzerent bases? tax free?..) 2. Once we start at one base, is it possible to move to another one? 3. Any chance to move to the AsiaX after some time? Thanks a lot LB |
