Joining the INDIAN AIR FORCE after CPL
What are the benefits of Joining the Indian Air Force / Coast Guard / Navy Pilot after completing the Indian CPL?
Does the 10 Year contract which can be extended upto 14 years make any sense after spending so much money? What are the Career Progressions in the Above Forces? What if jobs open up after joining the IAF? Please Comment! |

I am asking the above question because right now there are hundreds of CPL Holders sitting at home waiting for a job to open up.
I am asking this question so that people can comment on joining the Defence Forces and maybe out of 5000, 100 may make up their mind and go ahead with it. Just would like to know more about the whole process and opportunities available etc. What is the Training like etc. |
I think it would be best for you to go to your local recruitment office, maybe talk to an officer. So you can direct all your questions to him.

Guitarboy,
Just because you have a CPL does not guarantee a pilot position in the IAF.You will have to go through the training process and the standards are very much higher than the civilian sector. If you don't make it past the flying you will be "grounded" and since you have signed on the dotted line, you will be a "groundwallah" for the remainder of your contract with no option of getting out.Think this through really carefully. You may think you have the ability to fly but it is not you who gets to decide and the curriculum is pretty high pressure stuff. The medical is thougher too.
But if you think you are upto it,its better than a non-flying job.....and might help pay off the loan. Good Luck |
@alouette3 : A great point to be Noted. Thanks :)
Thats exactly the kind of Input i am Looking for. |
yah please do think it through as the bond applies to everyone. not everyone who goes in is allowed to train to become an air force pilot, im not saying this will happen to you, but just keep it in your mind so that you have a wider picture. but once you do get in, your going to be trained by one of the world's best instructors and when you will be out, im sure you'll top-notch on the grid. Good luck

IAF
Join the Air Force : well the selection and training is quite tough and no extra marks for your CPL.
Short Service Commission: is 10-14 years but if you get in the flying is awesome!! The flying hours you get will be actual hands on, mind ticking experience and not auto pilot hours. Especially in Chopper and Fighter Streams. The transport stream carries out some of the most challenging support operations in the world. Its a good place to get your experience and when you get into flying if you keep worrying about your money then you have chosen the wrong profession. ATB |
hey
can anyone please care to shed some light for women in IAF.
what IAF offers, procedure, requirements and benefits? I am 21 years of age and a CPL holder. I know for a fact that IAF requires you to be A GRADUATE WITH 60 PERCENT MINIMUM. any information would be appreciated. |
Why do you expect to be spoon fed?
They have a website with all the information. You have a CPL so i assume you can read and assimilate information. |
No TXT SPEK please

Isnt coast guard an option for you guys?
The Indian Coast Guard conducts exams twice a year and they specifically advertise for pilots with CPLs- DGCA, FAA, JAA etc. etc etc. You can expect to fly just about 4000 hours in 10 years there. Pays not that great. Livings real cheap. but 4000 hours on the logbook will take you places when its your time. Its flying Vs warming your couch for most of us and booya if ya choose the couch. I wouldnt think twice about it if I had the choice. |
I'm not so sure the flying standard is that high. The statistics seem to suggest a rather low level of skill
Indian military aircraft crash rate reaches one a month |
Not the Air Force but still a pilots job
If anyone is interested and meets the eligible requirements http://www.nausena-bharti.nic.in/pdf...server/Adv.pdf |
