Anyone with Past experience with Flying clubs like Fras, Elite and Johor care to share their PPL experience and which of these clubs provide a more conducive and reliable form of training?

Hi,

Fyi, DCA has stopped all flying clubs in johor from new ppl recruitment till late Nov 2009. U can check with them again coming end of the end.

I am too interested in getting a ppl from Johor. MOst likely is elite or fras.

KLIFA will probably announce their ppl program early next yr.

Well it seems that DCA might extend the PPL probation period further with the recent crash.

Was this is first solo or has he
flown solo before?

He was sent off to Ipoh in very marginal wx! The young man seems to have been very unlucky as he appears to have put the aircraft down in one piece.

Agree with that ZFT, I operate out of SZB and the WX was not suitable for Navex at the time. For those who dont know me I am ex MFA amongst others,

Alright so back to the Topic, does anyone have prior experience and would like to share. Really looking forward to doing my PPL there.

I'm interested in getting a PPL in Johor too. Got in touch with FRAS recently and was informed that enrolment would probably begin in Q2 2010. That was based on estimates of current students completing the course.

I've recently enquired and was told to do the application in early 2010.
Have you visited the club yet ? I'm thinking of doing so in Dec, for an introductory flight and get to know how the club runs its lessons.

I visited the club a couple of weeks back on a Saturday but no one was around and the place was locked. I should have contacted them to check first. I'll probably go pay them a visit when enrolment starts.

DCA stopped foreigners from taking flight training in flying club! I am afraid, it is going to be forever.

If you are a Malaysian, you are most welcome to do flight training in flying clubs. Restriction for foreigners.

If you are a non-Malaysian, sorry to say, no such thing! Bull****!

I suppose, you do not know anything at all! What "based in estimates of current students", these are nonsense.

There is this flying club in Senai, always complaining to DCA that foreigners (majority are Singaporeans) are flying in Johor. I am not going to mention which club. Because of this reason, DCA was so fed up that "block" neighbouring foreigners from flying in Malaysia. So as to say, this is act of the flying flub (his and her) itchy backside. Now, both of you see, why no business for all flying clubs till now! Dead silence like funeral!

Yup..I heard from 1st-hand sources too that Malaysian DCA has banned foreigners from taking up flying lessons in Malaysia and it's been implemented since a couple of months back actually. What in the world is Malaysian DCA up to? :ugh:

Just to share further, I hv checked the ppl courses with various flying schools in Msia and clubs in Singapore and these are what i found:
MFA: Not commencing any ppl
HM Aerospace: RM80k with food and accom
Singapore flying club: Part time flying only
Seletar flying club: Instructor on MC till Dec 2010

I am a Singaporean looking for a full time ppl course, will appreciated if anyone can pm me any useful info. Thsk

I would like to further add on "oil and vinegar" (it's a Chinese proverb, if you understand).

MFA now conducts fATPL. Which means one student pay RM300K! If they accept you, that means, they are earning <RM40K and sacrifice specially for you. So, unless, you gang up with 10 people and sign up a PPL package. Then, they might consider. :ugh:

HM Aerospace is damn crazy! RM80K! Because of their reputation, they "jacked" their price up! I can tell you, they will not entertain you!

PPL course in Malaysia flying school takes donkey years! Only if you have good and dedicated flying instructor, he can push you faster. Believe me! Otherwise, it takes more than 10 months to get PPL in Malaysia flying school. I am not surprised it takes 1 year or more to complete!!! :hmm:

Whenever, I met Malaysian students, I always gave them advice to fly in flying clubs, get their PPL first and then join flying academy. This way is much much faster! Cost effective and time saving. Otherwise, they are going to wait for years to complete their PPL in the school! :ugh:

Singapore Flying Club is collapsing! Their destiny is once almost like Johor Flying Club. However, they managed to sustain. Singapore Flying Club once very competitive to the flying clubs in Johor. So, SFC members decided to leave and fly in Johor.

Now, members are joining one club, and on the other hand, the other club's owner "red-eyed" and lodged complaints to DCA. They are damn itchy backside, now, consequence is DCA restricted foreigners (in actual fact, aiming at Singaporeans :eek:) and all flying clubs suffer. Who to be blamed?

Darshan Singh is always on leave. MC here and there. Just imagine, he is sick for so long and what if he is sick again while you are training?!

Also, your CAAS licence is restricted. No navigation! :ouch:

PPL course? Hum...must it be Malaysia (DCAM) or Singapore (CAAS) PPL? The money you are going to spend in Malaysia or Singapore, is better well worth spending elsewhere to do.

If your ultimate goal is get a basic PPL, then, any country licence is not an issue. There are United States FAA, Australia CASA trained Singaporeans, just dig out slowly in this or other forum.

If you get foreign licence, you can still fly in Malaysia and Singapore. Furthermore, if you have FAA licence, there are U.S. 'N' registered plane available for rental in both Malaysia and Singapore.

Else if, join WOA. Post your queries. Kindly do not expect direct or fast answer. :=

May i ask what do you mean by 'better well worth spending elsewhere to do'. Did u hv similar experience before, i.e. got ur ppl overseas and it is non- Malaysia or Singapore.

Recently on our local newspaper (4th Dec 09), DCA is most likely not going to approve new foreign ppl student in Msia. Hence the next best option is Singapore Flying Club. I hv actually considered this club before but 12-18 months before i can get a restricted license really put me off.

I hv checked the ppl course in US and Oz. Basic course fee (excluding accom and food and air tix) is cheaper compared to Singapore and almost the same as Msia, but can be completed in a shorter time, at least from what i can read in the fourm.

There are quite a lot of teaching schools to choose from in these 2 countries. I thought of Horizon Aviation in Boston or Adelaideftc where i have friends so that i can bunk in with them for the 5 months. I wonder if you have any experience for ppl training in Aust or USA (FAR part 61 or 141)?

It shouldn't really take you that long to do a PPL in Australia. It's been a long while since I did mine, but from memory it's about 80 hours of flying. If you're doing it full time and can manage 2 to 4 hours a day, you should be able to do it in 6 to 8 weeks.
