FYI I applied to Air India through a contract agency back in September and October time frame. My DGCA security paperwork went to the DGCA 17/10/08, I have yet to get a clearance. Because I did not have a clearance in November I missed a screening. Ir India held a screening in the states in February and even though I STILL did not have a clearance I did get to go. The sim guy said 'welcome to AIr India' as his initial debriefing item. The interviewer said that we could expect to attend 'Familiarization' in about 3 weeks in NYC. So far I haven't got a date when that will start. Its been 3 weeks tomorrow.

Luckily I got forewarned about India hiring and flying for them by a close friend. He wrote an extensive list of how to adapt and every other item on his list was "Be Patient" and he flew for Jet Airways.

As far as the interview, there were no questions, most of the interview consisted of rechecking all the paperwork you had already sent to the contract agency, especially flight logs, current medical and date of last flight and sim.

I'd love to 'talk' to anyone there now about tests that are required once we get there. Another person told me that you are required to take the tests and pass even though there was no training--very interesting! He also told me that any F/O has the gouges--sure hope so.

If you are interested in the sim profile I can post that as well.

I also would love to find out if incorporating yourself is worth the effort. Do I need an umbrella policy for protection against accidents. Any ex-pat--chime in here please.

Still waiting................ but with patience (not):ugh:

Schumi - Red Baron 9th Mar 2009 06:38

According to civil aviation ministry sources, Nacil is being forced into “distress borrowing” now since most banks are willing to roll over the company’s short-term loans. The exposure of banks has breached the limits set for a single company. “Instead, they (banks) have now demanded a comfort letter from the government,” said an official who did not want to be quoted.
Will AI survive.... Indian government has to do something quickly.... After all its the Flag carrier.....

Gents ( and ladies)

I,m a little confused about whats happening in Indian Aviation. Just a few questions

With all the talk of expat contracts being terminated by 2010 , as well as layoffs and equipment transfers ( Jet 777 to GF for example). Why then are Air India still advertising for expat 777 crews on 3 year contracts?

Is it true that you have to keep your base licence current. Lets say I get my Indian Gcaa licence based on an FAA one. I now have to keep going back to the USA to ensure my FAA licence is renewewd on the 777 ? , or do they like everywhere else in the world give you a 6 monthly sim check and keep your Indian licence current ?

Some contract agencies offer US/ Canadian bases. Then they talk of 6 on 2 off . Well which is it ? are you based in the US ( ie you start your flights out of say JFK and return there. Or are you 6 weeks anywhere on the schedule and then 2 weeks off ( on the base they refer too)

Aprreciate any input . Tks

CaptWUFF 9th Mar 2009 22:09

If Jet Airways sends backs expat pilots they cant go work for Air India for 6 months.

Schumi - Red Baron 10th Mar 2009 04:31

Yahh...that :mad:ing rule by DGCA that you have to give 6 months notice period to the airline....:ugh:

turbolader 14th Mar 2009 23:21

Hey guys, any idea as to where AIR INDIA mostly send their trainee pilots for training??? and how long would it take from the commencement of the the written xams till you know u have been selected by AIR INDIA???

optimus.Prime 15th Mar 2009 05:30

I believe most of it is inhouse ,at their training facilities in Mumbai(B747,A310) & Hyderabad(A320 family)......they used to do the B777 Type in Egypt....not sure where its done now!

CaptWUFF 15th Mar 2009 10:15

From the time you get hired to the time you are online can take yeeeeeeeeeeeeeears with air india.

MEL

Schumi - Red Baron 29th Mar 2009 10:17

Unfortunately yes.... That's a sad truth about India.... Reservations instead of merit....:ugh:

And whats more sad is that there is no intention of the Indian govt. to do away with the reservations on the basis of community (caste)....:(

sierra_november 2nd Apr 2009 07:34

no problem b_a ....
http://home.airindia.in/SBCMS/Downlo...candidates.pdf
that's the list of eligible candidates....

for those of you who are still awaiting the call letter, here's what you need to study
Air Navigation, met, radio aids and aircraft instruments , regulations, aero engines(including jet engines), aerodynamics, aircraft performance(general), Jeppesen charts, latest developments in aviation and general knowledge of aviation in India.

all the best ! :ok:

picollo 29th Apr 2009 07:38

As a curious observer I am wondering what kind of questions can one expect in an Air India interview?
Is it an HR style interview to check suitability or mainly technical?

Cheers

VT-ASM 3rd Jun 2009 11:45

Regards

Boeing7xx 3rd Jun 2009 12:00

company medical examination is done by internal doctors (or Max Healthcare and Jaslok Hospital or doctors empanelled by AI). Expect the regular blood, lipid profile, etc and a TMT.

VT-ASM 3rd Jun 2009 12:23

thanks mate,

Is EEG a part of the test ?

AI call off recruitment!!!

AIR INDIA chairman-cummanaging director Arvind Jadhav, 53, has cancelled the recruitment of 40 trainee pilots and ordered the HR department of the airline to start the recruitment process afresh. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Air India board had received several complaints of manipulation and irregularities in the selection of these pilots in April.
Some of the selected candidates are said to be close relatives of senior airline officials.
“The decision was taken by the CMD early this week after the process was found to have been vitiated,” said a senior Air India official on condition of anonymity.
Of the 1,400 commercial pilot license (CPL) holders who appeared for the exam on April 12, Air India had finally selected 40 pilots. Soon after this, the list of selected trainee pilots had been forwarded to the then Air India CMD Raghu Menon for approval in the third week of April. Since then, the file had been lying on the CMD’s table.
When Jadhav took over as the new CMD over on May 4, he found that the perks and privileges offered to these pilots were higher than those permitted by the rules. Citing these conditions and several other irregularities, he the ordered cancellation of the entire process, the AI official said.
At present, there are over 1,000 foreign pilots working for different airlines in India. Air India, which has about 700 pilots on its rolls, employs about 100 foreign pilots.
The exercise to recruit Indian trainee pilots had started soon after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued directions to replace foreign pilots with Indians by July 31, 2010.

Rumour has it that NACIL will be recruiting cpl holders again in July-August 09, any information on it guys?

airforceone13 30th Jun 2009 06:09

considering the present state of air india..do you still feel they are in any mood of recruitment..

anyways..if vacancies do come..cheers to that!!:ugh:

nikaviator 30th Jun 2009 06:59

maybe---as India md Arvind Jadhav had cancelled the recruitment of 40 trainee pilots over bias and ordered the HR department of the airline to start the recruitment process afresh. Frankly, I didn't even think they would be recruiting 40 pilots earlier in April.

nikaviator 7th Jul 2009 13:41

what is AI upto??
