Air Japan again?
 

I hear that Air Japan are recruiting again for commuting positions on the 767? Any news anyone? Are the conditions still the same as pre-Sept 11th?

The add from HACS was in the Australian newspaper on Friday 11. Details were pretty much the same I think. Capt $10500 FO $7700.
Fo must have command endorsement for a jet aircraft( a bizjet has been accepted for this requirement before) for the FO position as well, but 1000 hrs jet can be FO time.

Same conditions, as far as I know but they now require a type rating. This was not the case previously. I also believe the medicals are now being done before the sim check. Too many failing their NASA medical.
The advert in the Australian also wanted B747 type rated Capts/Fo's to be based in SFO and commute???

Considering that every pilot who applies must have a current ATPL from somewhere --how come all the medical failures? What are they looking at that is not covered by a regular aviation medical??

The medicals are not only a physical examination. It includes an interview with a Psych and some tests. A NASA medical is a fair description as ANA require you to fit their mould. <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">

Been there and done that. Here's the low down.

-Your height and weight must be proportionate.

-You must be able to increase your heart rate all the way to 195 bpm on the treadmill while hooked up to the EKG machine (many avid runners have failed this test).

-They will put you up to an eye machine (sorry don't know the name of it) and you have to be able to see all 81 flashes, one eye at a time.

-They will hook you up to the EEG machine (brainwave test) and you'd better pass it. This one you can't really prepare for.

-567 questions MMPI-2 psych test and an interview with a shrink. Don't try to out smart him, he does it for a living.

-Basic physical examination and blood/ urine test (recommend getting a blood test at least 3 weeks prior to the exam and work on any item that's abnormal, i.e. high chlorestoral etc.

-Few other bits here and there such as hand strenght test, walk a straight line with your eyes closed etc.

Although it has been a while for me but that about sums it up. By the way, the above examination was done in Los Angeles but I don't expect it would be much more different in Sydney. Good luck.

737man. A regular aviation medical it aint.. .9 different specialists over 2 days. Whooa was correct except he forgot the TV camera up your nose and down your throat to look at your vocal chords and the gay guy watching you **** into 4 different jars for the drug tests!

I passed but the other 2 guys I did the tests with didn't. We were all current airline drivers in OZ! <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

You guys are absolutely correct. I think Whoaaa and Absolutely pretty much nailed them all. The current passing rate for the JCAB pre-employment medical is around 24 percent. I passed it but another guy who was with me didn't. He was an airforce C-5 Galaxy driver. I think that preparing for the "NASA" medical really helped me out. Excercise and watch what you eat and so on.... . <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
