Seems that way, or how would airport security know where to look on his computer?

Chrome 12th Feb 2008 03:10

Another one? I thought flag carriers employ the best people?

Knightwhosays_NI 12th Feb 2008 03:22

They employ people, and last I checked, people make mistakes, even the best of them.

A pity though, he's a nice guy, but he's only got himself to blame for this.

CDRW 12th Feb 2008 03:35

Gosh the 4th floor are going to be kept quite busy what with the Lahore incident a few turn backs and now this!!!!

Having said that the Ozzie customs seems to have some sort of blitz on with aircrew at the moment and apparently are getting quite aggressive about it. Can we all expect to have our laptops searched?? What if some said "stuff it - no you cannot search the files on my personal computer"?? Next thing they will be attaching electrodes to your brain to see if you harbor any impure thoughts!!!

Well it makes me wonder how long he has been making this 'mistake'.

From the title of the post, it appears that a Captain Ng was the second captain to be caught.

Please correct me, Ahmad Said 25, of MAS was also caught by the customs in Adelaide on 8 Feb 2008. Is he a Captain? Just wondering.

Oz_TB10 12th Feb 2008 08:44

Lee, i think he might be refering to the Channel 7 news report that this was the 3rd time in a week that a flight crew member flying into Radelaide has been caught with kiddie porn. One was MH the other SQ leaving the third unknown.

I dont think the AFP or Customs are being too harsh, sickos like these deserve a bit of jail time to sort their heads ( and as5es ) out.

Chrome 12th Feb 2008 10:04

25 years old, on an MH wide body to ADL. I would guess that's he's still a First Officer :)

CodyBlade 12th Feb 2008 10:14

What the heck another one? This is going to result in more stringent checks on tech crew.Already I have to take off my shoes,hat..

JaguhDunia 12th Feb 2008 11:05

What if some ass or enemy of yours send you attachments with child porno stuff and you have yet to open it or forgot to delete it? The Oz customs can open it or retrieve it from your trash can! Remember Oz airports have wifi connections and any Oz customs guy with a desire for brownie points can work on your laptop under the pretext of " investigation ". Be warned!!

Chrome 12th Feb 2008 12:30

I have a lot of enemies but I have yet to receive any kiddie porn. I don't think my enemies are into kiddie porn themselves :}

SIA pilot caught with pornography at Adelaide airport fined
By Karamjit Kaur

A SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) pilot caught with pornographic material at Adelaide International Airport last Saturday, has been charged and fined A$12,000 by Australian authorities.

Captain Ng Kok Yauw, 41, a Malaysian national, was the third person arrested by Australian Customs Service in less than a week as part of a crackdown on attempts to smuggle pornography into the country through Adelaide.

The other two cases involved a 41-year-old Singaporean whose identity is not known and another Malaysian - 23-year-old Ahmad Said who is a co-pilot with Malaysia Airlines (MAS).

Australian media reported over the weekend that the MAS pilot was fined A$6,000, while the 41-year-old Singaporean will appear again in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Feb 25.

A spokesman for Australian Customs told The Straits Times that when Capt Ng was stopped and questioned by officers, he denied carrying any prohibited items.

But when they checked his laptop, they found 'objectionable material depicting abhorrent sexual acts.'

SIA spokesman Stephen Forshaw said in response to queries: 'We are aware of the reports of this case and are examining what the Court has said.

'All our crew are expected to comply fully with the laws of countries to which they operate, and that includes laws relating to the carriage of prohibited items, including data on computers.'

Singaporean SQ CAPTAIN

while the 41-year-old Singaporean will appear again in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Feb 25
Wonder what punishment it would be...??? A$6000 or "SINGAPORE ROTAN "

G-ZUZZ 12th Feb 2008 17:18

Wonder what punishment it would be...???
Same punishment as he could expect in an asian jail - 100 lashes til his back is raw and a few years spent in a rat-infested, roach-infested, stinking cesspit of a jail with slop fed to him from a bucket once a day, buggery, AIDS and Hepatitis A, B and C rife, corrupt guards, murder, beatings, etc etc etc.

No, that'd be uncivilised.

Chrome 12th Feb 2008 22:45

Ahhh as I expected. The first thing SQ would do if one of their Malaysian pilots screw up is to make it known that the said pilot is Malaysian. And of course the caught Singaporean pilot's identity is unknown till now. It's very hard for the journalist to make a few phone calls to find out as SQ protects their own. I didn't see any nationality mentioned in any of the foreign news reports on Captain Ng but you can count on Singapore's Straits Times to add that in.

I don't know why Malaysians still go to SQ. Yea money's good but if something goes wrong don't count on them to back you up. SQ006 accident in Taipei comes to mind.

parabellum 12th Feb 2008 23:02

Chrome - regarding SQ6, what else could they have done? The crew were kept on full pay until the report was released, quite a long time.
Yes, the Capt. got sacked but what do you expect if you are responsible for writing off several passengers and a very expensive aeroplane?

Lee 12th Feb 2008 23:37

Oz TB 10 Thanks for the clarification.

Highlander744 13th Feb 2008 00:39

Parabellum : what else would you expect for a company to do ? Keep them on reduced or no pay until a report is released ? AND the report does state other ' mitigating ' circumstances such as weather, poor airport procedures, lack of ground traffic monitoring equipment and inadequate airport signage to name but a few ! So I don't think the Captain was responsible for writing off several passengers and a very expensive aeroplane - he was accountable though.

Chrome : I believe you are correct in your analysis. It is indeed a shame how quick the finger pointing is done and how quick the back turns - it's the old age 'big company ( or state ) versus the little man' .

Anyway, maybe we can stay on track with the thread title ?

CDRW 13th Feb 2008 04:43

Yea, lets keep to the thread.

So just what can customs do to an individual in terms of "investigation". Did they check his laptop in his presence?? Did they possibly have a reason to check his laptop?? What if customs want to do a body cavity search!!! Hmm, the mind boggles. So the question is what are our legal rights.
