Any KIWIS in India - Mumbai

Hello

I'm wanting some info on the lifestyle for expat living in Mumbai - not about the flying.

A kiwi and family have been offered a two year contract with attractive terms.

Where is a good place to live near the airport?

How expensive is it?

Is it safe for your family/ young children?

Is there any suport within the expats for "the wives"?

Any info appreciated - we are just deciding if we should sign on the dotted line so to speak.

PM me if you wish.

There are a number of kiwis on lwop from NZ working for Jet in Mumbai.
There is a small community of expats they socialise with in a hotel compound which is very nice.
Outside is just like the rest of India; a toilet.

HaHa, you're right. They must be dead stupid or flat broke to work in a "toillet."

ddsilva 13th Dec 2007 17:54

WELL said its sad but the truth is most of you that come to india see it from your LITTLE LIMITED HOTEL ROOM which jet airways or any company for that matter pays on your behalf.By the way could you afford to pay for a room your self ? Secondly I do not see any company in india or the middle east with a begging bowl pleaded with you to fly in the region.
So what brings you here sir
1. your stone broke
2. your wife kicked your a..
3. your love putting up with sh.. all the time and love to bit..
So guys get a life and like the man says be happy for what you got and stop passing judgment on the country
ps remember you need to revalidate to stay and we know what the dgca is like. So be nice and think of the people in our world that do not have what you do jack...
Now run along and fly that metal heap that keeps the bank man happy

lingasting and ddsilva, read the contributions again carefully.
there is something in this world called sacarsm, and humour.
quite right about being ungrateful and namecalling a place which feeds your family.
lingasting, pulling wives into this forum is a silly thing, i'm sure you have more class in you than your post suggests

ddsilva 14th Dec 2007 05:07

Talking about class well now thats a different ball game. That would depend on which hole in the ground people crawl out from. Humour is a strange thing i thought i was meant to make us laugh but I guess that post just does not cut it . Does it .
Anyways to reply to the original post at jet there is a captain on the atr who is very happy but he does not have his family along, so from a expat point of view i see a lot of asian pilots with their families and kids going to the local schools and they seems happy as Larry:)
I think to appreciate india and its life you need alot of patience and maturity and an ability to look beyond what the eye sees.
If nothing else you will go back to your country and appreciate what you have there.

Hi, sorry if this is not a direct reply to the thread but can I ask how long it has taken you to get Indian airport security clearance. I have applied for a Licensed Engineer position at Delhi airport through a NZ agency (Rishworth) but have not heard anything back. I was told that 45 – 60 days was the minimum but it is now 90+ days and have not heard a thing. I have talked to the agency but they do not seem very concerned. Any thoughts appreciated.

I still don't have mine either - it has only been two months. The delay is to be expected i suppose.

the all passes will be made in jan because they dont make passes in nov to dec till there is urgent need of u in airlines. be calm your passes will be in your hand till 25 jan. hope u have been recruited by some airlines because otherwise it is very difficult to get pass because airport is private now and they r very concerned to security and as u r non indian there will little difficult to get pass but it will be made till jan and also call to airlines for this.

Ok thanks, seems a painfully slow process: DGCA clearance > Indian Work Visa > Airport clearance...... Patience needed for sure!

Mumbai is a 24x7 city.
There are Rich people & not so Rich staying here.
English is well understood too by most.
If you want good Accomodation I'd say Bandra West approx 7-8 km from the Airport.
Its not a toilet as some folks suggest. You need to be here to Judge.
I work at the Airport & live at Bandra west.I travel to work in 7 mins at night & 20 mins in the Day.
