... if you have a bit of spare time go to Angkor Wat and enjoy the beautiful sights there, especially early in the morning during sunrise.

I don't know anything about living in Phnom Penh, sorry, but the people should be very friendly.

black gun, you will love it there.
First night head to the Cat House (sign at the door says "Leave yor firearms with the secutiry guard") So when you've done that, head inside for a coldie, meal and a chat with one of the lovelies.
Second night head for Heart of Darkness, same deal.
Third night head for Sharkeys, same deal. Maybe you could make it Sharkeys first night, and ..... never mind, you'll do them all in time.
Down along the waterfront there is the Foreign Correspondents' Club and a host of other good places for a beer and meal.
Now, for some digs. Go to number A1 in 1A Street, or it may be 1A in A1 Street (no joke) I can't remember which way around it it. It's a short walk north ofthe central market, the one shaped like a dome, and a 5 minute stroll from the Cat House. Have a talk to Nigel Ghotbi or one of the other names under which he goes, and check out his apartments. You won't find any better in town, or you couldn't a year or so ago, nice finishes, central courtyard pool, etc. Nigel is a nice guy, denies he's Indian even though he looks Indian, proclaiming he's Iranian.
Food is cheap, people very nice in spite of their terrible past and current government, but they're Buddhist and that helps.
Enjoy Phnom Penh. They're still going through the SE Asian equivalent of the wild west.

Thanks for the information guys. Will post if there is anything new about Cambodia when I get there.

tinpis 21st Jul 2008 04:28

LOL...

Did this guy survive?

relax737 25th Dec 2009 23:56

Maybe not; he hasn't come back with a critique

And that was on 25 Dec 2006 when he posted that messsage.

Today is 26 Dec 2009, thats three years ago, either there is nothing new about Cambodia to post or he did not survive Cambodia at all.

Merry Christmas, any way.

I was about to suggest black gun may have been bound and gagged at either the Le Cyrcee (Secret Bar), DV8 or Martini's but I noticed he posted on another thread as recent as 8 Dec 2009.

Almendrudo 27th Dec 2009 15:27

B772,
PM him.
It would be interesting to know about his experience in Cambodia.

B772 28th Dec 2009 01:51

Almendrudo. I would suggest black gun did not make it to Cambodia. Lots of deals 'fall over' at the last minute when the cheque bounces in that part of the world .

Otherwise, he could have visited the 24 hour bar/brothel called the Walkabout and then gone walkabout or he could have been 'picked up' by a stranger at the Talking to a Stranger bar/restaurant.

Loopy1 28th Dec 2009 11:28

Actually there was a company over here about that time for about six months utilising Australian pilots. Fortunately I can say they all survived. Anybody that has been here will know it is relatively safe place.

B772 28th Dec 2009 12:14

Loopy1. The airline you are referring to was named Mekong. They operated an ex CO B737-500 for a number of months in 2003 before falling over. Black gun was expecting to go to Cambodia in early 2007.

An engineer for Royal Khmer Airlines (Mike S........) after being shot 3 times may not agree with your comments about Cambodia being a relatively safe place.

Loopy1 29th Dec 2009 05:06

No, I am referring to the Twin Otter which operated here in (I think) 2007 for approx. 6 months and flown by Australians. I guess that engineer would not agree but I have not felt to be in any danger or had any major problems in the 5 years I have lived here.

B772 29th Dec 2009 22:39

Sad to hear of John Thompson being clubbed to death in the early hours of Mon 28 December in Sihanoukville.

Loopy1 31st Dec 2009 03:26

Yeah not so good. Sometimes I think it is getting worse over here than it was 2 or 3 years ago.
