Life at Tiger Airways
As one with over 3000 TT and 1000 multi crew turboprop in Oz and looking to gain a jet job, would one be so kind as to provide some insight into life at Tiger Airways.
1) What is the expected annual f/o salary? 2) How much for the A320 endo? 3) Are the guys and girls happy? 4) What is the overall company professionalism like? 5) Even though a LCC, any company benefits? From research thus far I have gathered that you will probably near 1000 hours for the year, but the money isn't too bad (for a LCC). Any info greatly appreciated. |
1) 133 333 S$
2) 60 000 S$, 1/2 paid upfront, 1/2 deducted from salary 3) most of them 4) for sure the highest standards in an Asian LCC. Very similar to European and US LCC. 5) No benefits You will fly 1000 hrs. You are paid by the hour. Very long sectors so you can easily make your 100 hrs/28 days within 10 working days. 5-3-5-2 working pattern. Dani |
Thanks for the response. If you have time I just have a few more:
1) At what point do you start getting paid. At commencement of endorsement or once you have attained endorsement and start line training? 2) Is endorsement done inhouse and does endorsement have to be done with Tiger or could it be done elsewhere? 3) Amount of overnights? 4) What actual experience have newcomers had? Is it well above their minimums? 5) What are the negatives that newcomers should be aware of? The searches I have done for Tiger didn't reveal to much specific info, so just doing some digging. All info much appreciated.:ok: |
1) You get 170$/day or so during training. The first day you fly you get basic salary, which is 5333/month for FO and 8000 for Capt. As soon as you don't need a safety pilot anymore (which happens after a few days), you get your full salary (82/102$ per block hr).
2) training is done by Airbus Training, Toulouse. There are some guys who did it themselves somewhere else. It's a risk, because the company might still ask you to make it in TLS or wouldn't take you. 3) No overnights. This might change with the opening of a base in Manila (Clark AFB). Future Tiger cubs might have to join on local terms in CRK, for a local salary, which is lower than PAL and Cebu. 4) Experience is quite wide-spread, from ab initio locals up to command-ready and 1000s of hrs of Airbus experience. It's more a question if you're making a good impression during the interview (be a nice guy) and supply and demand. 5) There is lots of info about TGW and SIN. Please use the search function with results older than one year. Biggest problem is not the company (this is just a normal European Airline run by a young and enthusiastic team), but Asia and Singapore. But SIN is most probably the best place to be in Asia. Dani |
Dani,
First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to post this info. It is very difficult to find useful, factual information and I've not been able to speak to anyone at Tiger recruitment. (I've visited their office twice and been told not to try to get to speak to anyone or you cv will be binned, similiar response to emails). So......you said; "Experience is quite wide-spread, from ab initio locals up to command-ready and 1000s of hrs of Airbus experience. It's more a question if you're making a good impression during the interview (be a nice guy) and supply and demand" So.......how does one get to stand out from the crowd and get an interview? |
Thanks again for the info Dani, and best of luck also Sally.
|
Sally, I know, it's not easy, I was in a similar situation. Remember that the company cannot answer to every application, since there are hunderts of them. Be assured that they check everyone carefully. Visiting the office is not appreciated, because this increases their workload tremendously. This is a low cost company, and time is their most expensive ressource.
Regarding the wide-spread applicant's profile, I repeat that it is depending on your qualification, personality and supply and demand. And the later might change every single day. Take into account that Tiger is currently applying for a network at least doubling in size, but all depends on politics and economical pressure groups in other countries. Good luck, Dani |

The contract you sign with Tiger says you can be used for any subsidiary airline. But as soon as you get your contract, you have your respective salary. So I would assume it wouldn't be legally justified to send you from SIN base to CRK with the respective local salary. But it could happen to you that your contract says that you have to take CRK or nothing.
Chances of a CRK base is 90%, it all still depends on factors not in the hands of the airline. Originally it should have been started already. They work together with SE Asia Airline, which is a Dornier 328 operator in CRK. hth, Dani |

But if you're talking about the local Dornier pilots flying for SEA Air as a subsidiary of Tiger, then that would make more sense to me. |
Alteon in SIN has a 320 FFS that Tiger uses as well talk to Tiger, see if they hire if you train at the same sim center.:ok:
|
Expatula, it makes perfectly sense to run a base on lower costs than others. I do confirm that it is the intention of Tiger to give pilots based in CRK local salaries, which are about the same as Air Asia, most of Indonesian carriers, i.e. about half of what you get in Singapore (Jetstar, Silkair, Tiger).

ERJ rating
Hoi Dani,
I have read this thread with interest as I am interested to join Tiger Airways. I am not 100% sure whether we even flew once together but I believe we've been working for the same airline in CH. I have a total of 4700 hrs, thereof about 2300 PIC. ERJ rated and about 2200 hrs jet time. Do you think there is a realistic chance for a pilot like me without the bus rating to join Tiger as DEC? Many thanks again for your info above. Tschüss galleypower |
Jo salü, we surely flew together!
DEC is negative, but chances are good for you in Tiger. Average waiting time for command upgrade 8 months. Dani |
Tiger Airways
Many thanks for your reply Dani. I will consider the option and possibly apply.
Cheers galleypower |

Hey Dani
Did you manage to pass my details on to Paul Day? I pm'ed them to you. |
Hi Dani.
Whats the word in Sing about the Ozzie offshoot about to start? Are there many that would transfer to Oz for it? How many pilots do you think they'll need for the launch? |
Tiger Salary
Can anyone say what the FO and Captain salary is on the A320 at Tiger?
Thanks, |
Does anyone know what happened to the deal between SE AIR and Tiger? It was supposed to start March 25th, but nothing came through, it's still Tiger operating the route between Macau and Clark.
This being the case, any veracity that it will be Tiger pilots based in CRK instead? |
