Can some one please let me know that if I had my Lasik Eye Surgery done, can I still work in South East Asia?

Hi Ubpilot,

I have had LASIK eye surgery and currently working in Hong Kong. HKCAD requires along with the yearly medical to also go see an Opthamologist for an extra look & check-up.

Japan JCAB does not allow LASIK at this stage...but I know for a fact that they are currently changing their requirements which should be completed by approx. April 2007.

As for everywhere else not sure, so cant help with those.

where do you guys get Lasik in the SE Asia?

I am here in Kuala Lumpur, where they told me having done many pilots from Singapore.

Anyone on the board that can confirm this?

There are SIA cadets who have had undergone Lasik. But I heard that they had to wait for about a year to be selected to see if the procedure has "stabilized".

Do you know where exactly they have done Lasik?

Don't bother playing with your eyes, unless you have a serious problem like cataract etc etc
The surgery for corrective vision is a temporary patch up as your aging will only bring the problem back later.
I had mine done in 1994 on both eyes, one at a time with a waiting period of 6 months between each operation. Another 12 months before the commercial medical was re approved. When u play contact sport or ball sport like squash for example, do remember your eyes are extremely vulnerable then due to a weaker lense.
Anyway 12 years later, my vision is changing, with a need to wear spectacles for small print.
Would I do it again? No leave it to nature as it will catch up again... I was lucky in those days, my medical insurance paid for the ops, now it's ur own pocket

To answer the initial question:yes.
Only the individual can answer their own "risk management" potential. Find a good opthamologist...(ask around!!), then make your decision!! Good luck...it really can be successful!!:D
