Prospective Singaporeans going to Massey University thread!
 

Hi, I have some information which leads me to suggest there are at least 5-7 Singaporeans going over in 2007 to pursue the Bachelors of Aviation!

Would like to invite all prospective students there, whether you are in BAv or the Management option, just join in! Wave hello and let's exchange our contacts!

And as for me, I am most probably going for the course in the first semester of 2007, however I am still weighing my options, because afterall we are spending a :mad: load on this degree.

Left Wing : 2007 Alteon Training in SIN will offer type ratings for 320 & 737NGs <--- goodness, I didn't think they would open that early! Would SG have enough airspace to hold type trainings? I doubt so.. we would end up flying to Malaysia I reckon?

er1cw: Hi Eric, haven't been thru the interview yet, but have already passed the medical, honestly I'm still weighing the options of whether to go or not, it's a lot of money just to get a Degree, and I'm by no means born with a silver spoon. I have tonnes of info about the degree already, if you guys need some info, just ask them here I'll try to answer them for the good of us all :)

dont need airspace for type rating just need a sim !...study some more about what is a type rating !

If you in Sin go Changi Vicom you will see the Alteon building standing up !

the CPL that come with the Bachelor is recognised by CAAS but the Bachelor degree is not recognised by SIA.

to add on,

to be employed by CAAS. they need a 2nd upper honours.

the FAA CPL is not recognised by CAAS.

having a singapore CPL ... i would think is an advantage to consider for employment by SQ.

actually cpl training(with ME IR etc) can be taken as a minor in many unis, like i wish to do phy/com sci double and minor in faa cpl next time.

i think avi deg not much use, esp like mentioned above if it dosnt count with sia.

prob with fs is must get add ons. default planes dont even have manual start up or x feed.

Hi guys, I am new here. Anyway, I am a Singaporean 20 year old waiting to enter NS. I have a very strong aspiration to become a pilot and very likely to go Massey University to get a Bav. Have you guys found out roughly how much it's going to cost (everything in)? From what I gather, the school fees seem to add up to almost $150K SGD, excluding other expenses. It is very costly.

If you guys have any other places to recommned studying at, eg. Alteon, I would be more than happy to listen. Cheers.

LOL i didn't know about that! Still greenhorn to this, so type rating just utilises simulators!

i know faa licence is not recognized by caas but i can do a conversion. i just dont want to spend 1yr+ just to get a fatpl(unless with cadetship of course) i'd rather do it while in uni. i'll be trying for saf scholarships so if i do get them, the flying training will be covered.

btw, i just did my 1st solo at syfc this morning:) recommanded for ppl already

yantz, you dont have to take a bacholor in aviation just for the cpl. does it even include IR ME? if you just want a licence, there're many flying schools in aus/uk. 150k sgd is almost enough for oxford

i understand semester start on jan n july....so does that means students have to start their degree on january only or either 1?

I graduated from Massey University Bachelor of Aviation (ATP) in April 2006. I am now in EVA Airways in Taiwan.....currently a trainee.

Seems to have so much negative comments on the school?

Alright. Firstly i guess people who want to go to Massey have their own reasons and the majority would think like that. Getting a fATPL with a degree as a back up. Or either to cut short the time spend getting a CPL in some flight school where u have to train for a year and have no degree. So people think that Massey is a one stone kill two bird kind of situation. Its true that the a great deal of Money is involved in this degree.

From my own point of view, does the Bav degree holds great value in our aviation industry? Secondly is the main objective of going to massey to learn CPL or get the Bav. In my opinion the degree is sought of the back up for most of the Ppruners here, especially for singaporeans. As we all know education is essential in our society. I am still doing my A levels this year and have still quite some time to decided on my future. But perhaps i would like to hear the views of those who have been through the course about the quality of the degree and the use of it as compared to the CPL/IR ME. The trainee at EVA airways right now could perhaps give us a insight to this course. If i am not wrong also, anyone with the resources is able enter the course even with mediocre grades. Of cause Medical is a must.

By the way to Add on whats the use of alteon training centre in changi. is it just to upgraded existing pilots with different type ratings or is it a private flight school? =D
