Kingfisher, Jet Airways pilots please help
 
Hi, my husband has been offerd an opportunity with Jet Airways or Kingfisher, he is an ATR Captain(TRE, LFE).Can anybody help us to decide whether to go or not , as we do not want to split our family( 2 kids).Does anybody know how do expat pilots with families live in India (accomodation, schools etc.)?I am going to obtain my ATPL in 2 weeks, anyway I know that expat copilots without much expirience have no chance in India.

you can try applying to KF and 9W on the Props if you wish to. i think expats might be allowed to work even as FOs on the ATRs .. and with the crunch on right now, you might just get in ..
the others please help on the "moving the family part" !

Bit out of the track but still, may I update you with the fact that United Nations object on use of words such as 'First world, Second or third world'. About 10 years back above were replaced by "Developing or Developed nation/ economies.

if this is true could you tell me how to apply? i have 500hrs on light aircraft and also im type rated but not experience on type and no atpl just cpl, me. do you think i can have any chace?

Hey Ja

At present, the requirement is to have either a CPL/ATPL, preferably the latter, from a recognised ICAO state - so you qualify there (dependant on where you got your licence from), but all carriers are insistent that you have a min of 300 - 500 hrs on type. This way the airline reduces its training costs attributed for you. So on that note, i'm affraid until you are up to speed on the a/c its a no go for you.

Good to see that Kofi Annan has joined Pprune. Of course, the UN has proven its irrelevance repeatedly, so Pprune contributors would obviously not feel too ashamed for not falling into line.

However, what category does a country fall into that has for decades afforded itself the luxury of nuclear weapons, but still is unable to find the brainpower to provide proper roads and toilets to its people - let alone come to grips with annually recurring rainfall?

Let me tell you that I have actually lived in India, and that since 1979 I have spent almost equal time in China and India.

My Indian business associates who visit my factory in China are consistently astonished and embarassed to see the high quality of infrastructure (roads, power supply, etc) provided by the operators of the Industrial Zone, whereas in India, part of the (public) access road to our factory is essentially still a dirt track - years after we moved in. I can tell you that in 1979 China was light years behind India in almost all respects.

But that is only what affects me personally.

On a much wider and more important scale, the fact that in a country that boasts of its nuclear capability still HALF of the children are malnourished is a disaster. In fact, child malnutrition is worse in India than in sub-Saharan Africa.

Then we have, of course, dowry killings, rampant infanticide and child marriages.

So much for your "most dynamic economy", mate.

I would call it a non-developing country.

Whilst I must agree with much of your analysis about the state of India currently, you cannot take away that, many of these problems exist in a number of Developed countries worlwide, but that's for another thread.

Getting back to the matter of a strong economy, a number of economists have shown through various resarch along with the World Bank that India's exponential growth rate is strong and secure.

Some economists caution that if the service sector bypasses the industrial sector, economic growth can be distorted. It is true that, in India, the service sector's contribution in GDP has sharply risen and that of industry has fallen. But, there are other economists who argue that India's service has grown NOT BECAUSE the industrial sector has slowed down. Rather, they say, India's industrial sector has indeed grown steadily,and three times between 1993-94($238864) and 1998-99($1112206), industry surpassed the growth rate of GDP. Thus, the service sector has grown at a higher rate than industry,though industry too has grown. The rise of the service sector therefore does not distort the economy..

The fact that the service sector now accounts for more than half the GDP probably marks a watershed in the evolution of the Indian economy, and its projected worldwide growth rate.....mate.

send your husband in recognition there for some weeks, ask him impressions and then decide together what is better to do. I think nobody in here can help you with your such personal questions.
Even your family is so unusual, two pilots & two kids; I guess it's so hard to find just another couple exactly in the same conditions!
I believe is much better if you split your family for a while instead sending persisting requests in here.

Try this, http://www.rishworthaviation.com/opp...list.asp?cat=1, they are probably working also for 9W, try to contact them and ask about the conditions and terms of Jet Airways.

Sarka,

Jet Airways is an established airline in India whereas Kingfisher is coming up as a strong competitors. When it comes to pay that is something you would have to negotiate with individual airlines.

Jet has base for its ATR in DEL, BLR and BOM. Whereas KFA is operating its ATRs out of BLR and CCU. So depending on where you want to live you can decide which airline to join.

Delhi, all the embassies are in Delhi and they all seem to have some sort of club for their citizens. Also there are a lot of day boarding and full boarding schools in and around Delhi. So if both of you start working, than perhaps your kids can go to Boarding school. The only thing that is really going in top gear in India is its education system. We do have one of the best education systems in the world.

B'lore is getting a bit too crowded but it still is the silicon valley of India. People who live in B'lore swear by it that they love it there. The roads are narrow, crowded (well thats most of India) and you will find yourself in traffic jams. But that happens in London and NY as well.
