Is there anyone who knows about license conversion to Myanmar??
I really need to know what it takes to convert CPL and IR to Myanmar license
it is so hard to get in touch with their govement...thanks in advance

as far as i know you do not really need to convert your license in mynamar. which company you joining ? expats there get a validation from the local authorities and forget about contacting them via telephone. but you have to sit for some local papers i.e airlaw and then later on will be your visa's and permit renewed yearly and it is quite difficult for expats to get one. i see that you are from korea, why go myanmar ? there are so many opportunities out there. just my 2 cents.

A foreign license conversion in The Golden Land of Myanmar consists of only a local validation to fly locally registered aircraft. If your company has foreign registered aircraft such as French like Air Mandalay or Canadian helicopters, then you will have to obtain a validation from that authority which is done by your employer. You will only be able to sit for the 1952 Union Of Burma Law exam once you are employed. The exam is taken from a book written by the British in 1952 (and that's the last time that any of these guys had an update of any pilot theory!) The exam also has questions from the local AIP which is also so far out of date. As they make up everything themselves. They say that they are an ICAO State, however they have no contact with any other ICAO contractual states! The exam itself is a sham and will cost you 2 bottles of scotch. And this I believe is how all local people obtain their licenses. Either by bribary or having a relative in a position of authoruty (ie a general) You will however get good hours in Burma and a good variety of wx and terrain to fly in. The issue of a business long term visa should be arranged for you by your employer, which will allow you to work there. If you have any questions please ask.

I did it the official way, no scotch involved. But it's no problem at all. The bigger part is to lookup things from their AIP, i.e. like what's the beacon frequency in NYU, what's the airport fee in MDL, etc.
The other part is knowledge from the "aircraft manual" (no, that's their air law book). Some parts are even from 1936! :rolleyes:
Get it ahead of the exam, it's fun to read! Nothing applicable to the way we fly nowadays though. :ugh:

The exam is taken in the "flight academy". I found the biggest challenge to be getting rid of all the mosquitos there, especially the aggressive asian tiger one. I never saw them at all anywhere else in Yangon.
So come with long sleeves and insect repellant... :uhoh:

After that you need to see the "Director Flight Check" (rather nice guy) in the DGCA building, he will collect like 140 US$ and issue your validation. Often they like to know the email address of your CAA from you, so they can write them and ask for confirmation that your licence is true and valid...

The validation is normally limited to the remaining validity of the licence it is based on, if you renew your licence, you need another validation. And does include all limitations, even where such limits don't exist in local airlaw.

Safelife,firstly I am amazed there IS an official way! I also DID the exam. The two bottles of scotch was a present. 1 for the guy who went thru the AIP with me at the AIS office, and the other was for the director flight check. As it panned out, I was given some sample Q's to study. And I did read the AIP and the air law book. However when I took the exam in the mosquito office it turned out that the sample Q's I have been given were the exam Q's!! I guess two bottles of Jonnie W ( red label) from City Mart was not a bad deal!

On a serious note, for you AIRJAE, Safelife has defined process exactly.

very difficult process to convert license. I would like to ask how long would it take?
Well, don't really know about myanmar, but I currently started work for myanmar airways in Korea as an operation staff. I was just thinking about the possibility of getting pilot job in myanmar. Is there any chance that I can get a flight crew job in myanmar? I am very low hour pilot...

Well firstly I must ask MAI (Myanmar Airways International) or Myanma Airways (As in crash airways)??? Which company are you working for? MAI & the latter are two completely different outforts!

As you are now aware it is not entirely impossible for a foreign national to get a job in The Golden Land. It really depends on luck I guess especially if you are a low time pilot. It would no doubt help you if you are rated and current on the ATR, as I do know for a fact that one certain company has a shortage of pilots. Having said that it would help by being current on type doesn't mean you don't have a chance if you don't have a rating. It's all about being in the right place @ the right time in this industry! You will get your hours up very quickly in Myanmar if that's what you need. You can contact the airlines directly to find out their requirements. ( best way to do this is by going thru their websites ie: airmandalay.com)

oh... it is the second one...the crash airline as you described...what they are doing right now is they opened a branch in korea as they are planning to go to Seoul, Korea AND Osaka, Japan. As far as I understand, the Myamar airways, not MIA, only have turboprops...So they are looking forward to puchase jet aircraft very soon for international operations.

Overseas office?? International flights?? History doesn't repeat itself. If you really work for Myanma Airways, you would know that they don't just have turbo props!! MAI ( myanmar airways international) is the ONLY operator with REAL overseas offices ( some other carrier has an office in a backstreet of Chaing Mai ).

Well, I know that this airline has got some jets - but any international insurance doesn't cover to fly with them so not many foriegner are flying with them. One of my friend was on their jet and the seat was broken, and aisle was full of shoes, bags, etc and didn't really have any access to the exit. And some years ago, NGO group were on their flight and crashed and all dead. But no one knows about this news, as long as Golden Land is concerned, this accident DIDN'T happened.... :mad:

I thought Air Bagan is ordering some turbo-props, and also some jets as well...

I have heard MAI is expanding. But to Japan? If it is true, then it is very interesting...
ANA was going to do direct flight to Nagoya and all the plan was done, but some very very wealthy Golden Land people were against to do this route because it would be...1. In convinient to take their kids to Disney Land, 2. Nagoya is not the place to do shopping and eating out ( yeah, has to be Tokyo!?) 3. It is not the Capital of Japan and this government would loose face internationaly if they would only have route only to No.3 city of Japan. So, the Golden Government didn't agree with this idea - so ANA said " well, then forget it"....:hmm:
