Fly Asian Xpress (FAX) is a new airline subcontracted by AirAsia to operate turbo prop services following the rationalization of domestic routes in Malaysia. FAX will commence operations for the rural air services network on 1st August 2006. Therefore, the company is seeking suitable candidates to join its operations in Miri and Kota Kinabalu airport.

It for malay pilots only, i think....a DCA thing, I don't think expat are allow to touch the precious Malay planes anymore, after AirAsia decided to terminate foreign expat F/Os...no Airbus, no Command upgrade as they where promised a year ago (since most expat F/O have a average TT4500hrs, 3000hrs type) BUT....

I was just thinking why don't FAX put cadet pilot which are fresh out flying school, with ink still wet on there licenses, onto these planes, since there is a vast amount of these cadet pilots around (i got told around 140 cadets, all just waiting for the precious airasia's airbus) besides it a good place to learn how to fly properly, in some tough terrain... OR is it a malay mentality to think it too below them to fly a turboprop...it a turbofan or I ain't going.:=

I think its going to be hard to find malays to fly turboprops...:ugh:

I'm sure Europe, Australia, NZ are all doing the same "malay" thing you are talking about. You had better get your facts straight before you embarass yourself further. Racism in this thread is not appreciated.

All countries have their nationals in mind before offering jobs to expats. This is not a "malay mentality" or an "Aussie mentality" for that matter. Unless, from your location in outer space, it offers jobs to "klingons" before "proper aliens".:ugh: :}

Try get a job at Qantas or British Airways and see whether 'Malays' will get it or not...

Why does the world think Asia is an open door for low time xpats to walk in and get a flying job...and when they are told the locals come first; they dont like it ...:= :yuk:

Every country has the policy of hiring it own nationals first...will a Malay get a job with BA will an Indian get a job with Easy or Lufthansa....

I think jetjockey696 confuses 'Malay' for 'Malaysians' (hopefully that's the case, if not then it's a pure racist posting!).

Indeed there will be protection of jobs in any sovereign country, be it 1st,2nd. or 3rd. world country.It's not what you are, but which passport you hold :} On that note, I do believe we do have an ex Malaysian (malay, if it makes a difference) who works with QF now :ok:

Back to the topic though, it really makes me wonder who will take up the offer from FAX, be it a Malaysian or an Expat with local terms :confused: The pay is a pittance compared to what it's really worth!

How much are they offering? Not sure the exact figure but from my mates in F50, much lesser than what they are getting from MAS to fly the same a/c with the same rank. That is why a few of them are looking for jobs with a flying school in Langkawi, apparently they should be pocketing about 5 figures (gross) monthly.

I think you will find that it's NOT that YOU can't work overseas it's a matter of obtaining a work permit for that respective country. CASA, FAA and JAA all let anyone that sits there exams and flight tests to obtain and hold a full licence without restrictions (no work permit required).

DCA hold too much power in this country. If you pay for flight training in Malaysia you should be entitled to hold Malaysian licence. Being an expat that is not the case as it's attached to your work permit. It's not up to DCA to restrict or disallow expats in this country; it's the prospective employer to determine what they want.

Why can't Malay’s, Malaysians, Indians, Chinese, whatever obtain work with BA or QF? Stop thinking that its coz the west hates you! You have the requirements, pass the selection process then you are employed. Look at all the Malaysian expats (yes they do exist) flying for airlines in the middle east, china, etc.

Problem is in places like Australia, Europe and US is they require EXPERIENCED pilots. That doesn’t mean a fresh MFA cadet; it means JET or TURBINE hours usually around 1500hours++. Compare a twin otter here to Australia and pilots would do anything to fly one whereas in Malaysia no one wants to touch it.

In reality Malaysians are lucky. There are not many places in the world a fresh cadet can graduate then gain employment on a320 or 737.

Just don’t expect it to last much longer....all flying schools are full! :=

If still not convienced take a trip to the local flying schools in US, Australian and Europe to see 10 flight instructors waiting at there flying school hoping someone rings or walks in... :hmm:

confirm-finals?, while it may be true that an ICAO recognized license is an ICAO license, the respective CAA's, FAA's & the likes have their peculiar requirements with reference to the conversions of said licenses.These restrictions are put in through the respective's government policies.Even if it means that attached restrictions be placed on your flying licenses.If you want a straight conversion, I believe most regulators will allow it, like you said go through all the hoopla of written & flight test, but that wouldn't be financially wise :rolleyes:


As you said, the flying schools are full, in time all the flying jobs in Malaysia will be filled up.Heck! I remembered just roughly 13 years ago the local papers were printing sob stories on young blokes who spent the family fortunes to get a license but found jobs were wanting, even MAS cadets were clamouring to fly the Twotters!These same blokes are all flying now (some are captains or even expats now!).It's economics 101 (supply & demand).Basically we are still on the rise of the job wave in Asia now & it will be for some time if the expansion of Mid-East, India & China civil aviation industry is taken into account.Malaysians can afford to be picky :D The catch is, these operators will want more 'bang' for their bucks, meaning if they have to employ expats, they want these pilots to be type rated & with min hours on type.So no free lunches :=


Anyway, back to the topic again, I believe at the moment, FAX want to pull a fast one & see which sucker (pilot?) will bite the rotten cherry that they are dangling.I don't have the exact figures CAT IIIB, but like what virtual reality said, it's much,much less than what MAS is paying their pilots or even mainline AK (Air Asia)!I believe when they can't get the said pilots, they will open up to expats, but I won't hold my breath coz looking at their track record they won't pay expats anything but local terms! :E

However low Hrs Cadets fly a Big Jet without having proper training is not recommanded := .

I dont take so called"Buget Airline" with my family.Yes it cheap,but look at their Training.I would rather to take SQ,CX.;)

I think it would be pretty safe to say that if you were an unemployed local pilot you wouldn't turn down an offer to fly "small birds."

And what kind of expat is FAX going to attract except those who aren't good enough in their own country?

heard from many people this won't last for FAX as they are having many problems setting it up and the date line is getting closer. Better go direct to AA
