Latest news following the rationalisation plan is for Air Asia to take over 19 domestic trunk routes and same number for MAS. No more subsidy from the government for MAS so looks like the playing field is levelling out.

Mention was made of MAS getting rid of 19 aircraft and possible retrenchment for 6500 staff.

:bored: looks like business as usual boys!:zzz: routes are pretty much the same with the exception of R.A.S. over in SSB ops

the question would be how it affects the pilots? more importantly, do the 22000 employees believe they are going to make a profit out of this version of W.A.U.?

It is strange that top management do not see procurement department as a problem. Nothing's been mention about people in charge mismanaging business contracts on behalf of MAS.

Well, so be it...good luck Idris! Hope you will be able to separate the 'MASboleh' ties that corrupted good business practices once upon a time in the company.

The prob with all u AK boys, that u guys once in a while have to look down and see what really happens out side the box and not just always rally behind tony. In this instance Ton'y is going to end up being the big loser.
RAS has been a full subsidised fleet by the sarawak gov, only the cost of the seats, they dont pay the salaries and maintainance cost that go with running the fleet. And Tony would be taking over the F-50's, why? Does he not know that these are the most expensive aircraft to maintain and run today. For a lcc, u minimise cost and one of the ways of doing it is by having a common a/c type, u dont go out and start running a whole different type of aircraft, your cost just sky rockets.
Mas on the other hand get's to run and maintain a/c and routes that they know are the one's that can and would make money plus he gets rid of the fokkers and the otters and all the extra baggage that comes with it! 6500 in total. (something that should have been done long ago)
So to me IJ is one up and for once tony has made a big mistake, and i pity the guys who advised him in doing so. Good luck tony and thanks.

No rallying behing Tony indended by this post but Tony is a pretty smart Business man and better at it than you and I put together me thinks.
But I think we are smart too and that being because we will one day soon end up flying at a better paid place than MAS and Air Asia salary for any fleet put together :ok:
I'm sure you have your plans...I certainly have mine.
MAS now gets to do what they like with the Domestic and surely they will now do better with their own business management for the premium market for domestic travel in Malaysia to make money.
But anyway what this plan means for Tony exactly;
1. End of subsidies to MAS domestic. MAS will have to generate profit
from its own turnover. For routes that are not
making money, MAS will have to withdraw or cut back the capacity or raise
fares. They can no longer engage in low fares just to hurt AirAsia.
2. Market segmentation. MAS will not be allowed to price
below their full fares. They are allowed to increase their full fare in
Economy up to 30%. Their Business class fares will also be raised. This
means that MAS, due to the pricing strategy will focus on the premium market
and AirAsia will focus on mass market principally to itself. In addition,
there will be no more Supersavers, no more Student Fares, no more Group
Fares and Holidays package fares.
3. AirAsia has free access to any routes in Malaysia with
no control on capacity.
4. AirAsia will operate Senai Hub in totality. MAS will
not operate any flight from Senai to any point except the KL-JB route.
5. AirAsia have exclusivity on 96 routes where MAS will not
compete.
6. AirAsia will take some of MAS' staff, no aircraft, and will
provide MAS with some inter-connectivity.
7. AirAsia will start hubs in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
8. On the Rural Air services, AirAsia will help manage the
Rural Air and Fokker 50 services. Air Asia will subcontract this service
to 3rd party. This will NOT come under the AirAsia brand. AirAsia WILL BE PAID for managing the service and the Government will FULLY SUBSIDISE these flights.

The rationalization has already started and Supersavers are gone. MAS will
begin to cut back some capacity and they will start removing special fares
and increase fares. Therefiore MAS will fly profitably with Domestic and the public benefit from the low fares on more routes with AK
Lots of Fun for both sides then. Question is, what is the East Malaysia based MAS guys deal going to be? I certainly hope that even under a different company the F50 and Twin Otter guys will still be given opportunity to progress to MAS mainline.

TF didn't want RAS. It came as part of the deal. The sleeze can't have his cake and eat it too. You can tell how he's so smug about winning the battle against MH but brushes off the RAS aquisition with "it won't be our problem". Sucked in I say :ouch: The Govt and AK might be ganging up on MH, but at least there is a small measure of justice in the deal. But MH better watch out, first domestic and then..... international :eek: TF will try to stick it into MH in the same fashion just you wait. Wonder what kind of spin AK can put on what will probably be the worst paid longhaul LCC pilots and cabin crew in the world :suspect:

Pity the guys in RAS though, future must seem a little shaky or maybe they'll get the "come and fly the A320" carrot dangled in front of them and get bonded up to their eyeballs :{ At least those guys (if they come to AK) will already be used to walking long distances to their aircraft rain, hail, or shine!!! Whoever thought stepping onboard the aircraft looking like a drowned rat was being professional :*

The worst paid long haul LCC pilots and cabin crew in the world???? It sure didn't look that way when the interviews were going on.

And the word is out that they have stopped taking in applications for now because of the influx of MAS retirees and jobless expats. And don't forget the impending arrival of MAS pilots who will be retrenched with the rationalisation plan.

The salaries may not be on par with CAL, EVA, KAL and European and North American airlines but then neither is the cost of living in Malaysia, which is where the crews are based. There are no overnights on any of their flights and everyone gets to go home at the end of the day (albeit a long one.)

I guess TF has offered an out to those who want to start off and maybe later move on to mainstream flying. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to move to major airlines and for those who harbour such ambitions Air Asia is an excellent starting point. Salaries are good by Malaysian standards and unless you indulge in caviar and dom perignon everyday you can expect a comfortable lifestyle.

TF has, I believe, more business sense than most of us, and in pursuing his dream has provided opportunities to the wannabees and newbies.

And, NO, i'm not a pilot with Air Asia.

so what's next??? pilots leaving MAS for Airasia,,,nah, for less money? what is the pay for a 320 capt. on Airasia? Isn't it almost the same as a senior F/O on MAS? if this is the situation, I don't see it happen

i think you are right in the $$ being almost the same...which would make what you say true about MH FOs leaving for AA BUT those with any foresight would go for it because at the end of the day it is command and for these folk, AA is not their final destination.
For those who think for only the present..........they will have the same thoughts as you.

fhchiang,did u got your eyes fixed?you are too eager to become a pilot...it is not theee best job of the world...keep trying...how many psycomotors have you gone to?54 maybe?and I dont think you can get to MH with those kind of eyesights...you are better off on ground dude...

Here's a bit more advice fhchiang, take it in the spirit it's given.

Keep on plugging. There'll always be people who will give you the negative side of every argument. But in all my years of flying I've met only very few pilots who continue to have the passion they displayed initially. That is not to say they are not good pilots. Disillusion sets in, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. It takes a very determined person to continue on the chosen path.

We all make mistakes. But it takes a man to recognise the mistake and to correct it. Well done!

i think you havent really followed this guys thread...he is just a kid,trying to sound like he's been in airlines for ages....some mistakes can be costly mastake,and as a pilot..its a no no no...pilots co pilots are the to prevent mistakes,hence the 2 pilots operation/multi crew..

fhc,hey...why dont you try to go in as a private guy?They wont need an psycomotor I guess...and how about SQ as well,they wiiilllll like smart kiddies like you...

and I know non of those capts or fos that you have mentioned before....

I really hope you will get all the jobs you want..SQ MH AA,and maybe a call from the sheikh of EK....and by the spirit you are showing,looks like you will be a capt by 500hrs on type..
