Remote,

If you don't like it then, You leave it alone. There are plenty people who will take the job.

Regarding Korean beer, perhaps it tastes a bit like sour grapes...

Now seriously, the average is 11 days at home (plus travel) per month. The pay is not bad (around 12K per month on the bigger jets) and the aircraft are mostly new and very well maintained.
That's the way it is, but remember this is a job not some country club.

Cheers.

Diabolo: type rating is definitely required.

Fly747 9th Apr 2006 22:25

Do you pay Korean tax? Is that 11 days plus 2 for travel? Any gratuity?
Thanks Sam.

zlin77 9th Apr 2006 23:08

Fly747,
All salaries quoted by agencies are net amounts after South Korean tax is paid.
Some countries have reciprocal tax agreements with South Korea so no extra tax is payable at home.
Travel days in addition to days off are provided at 3 per month so you don't travel in your own time.
Per diems are not extremely high, in Korea 2,350 Won/ Hour (about 2.5 U.S.D), In other countries range from about $2.00-$4.00/Hour.
Sick leave 14 days a year.
Overtime is not generally earned, but averages at $140 U.S.D./ Hour net.
Hope this helps, ZLIN.

Samuel Adams 9th Apr 2006 23:12

ZLIN is exactly right.

GreenOnGo 10th Apr 2006 03:55

Thanks Sam and Zlin for your insight.

I rather enjoy Korean beer, so perhaps there is another bitter ingredient there adding to the taste for some contributors!

Fly747 10th Apr 2006 08:09

Thanks guys, one other question, how many hours a month/year do you fly?
When does overtime kick in? Which is considered the best agency to apply through? That looks like 3 questions!

Samuel Adams 11th Apr 2006 09:23

Overtime starts at 75 hours, so expect to exceed that on VERY rare occasions. My average has been close to 65 hours plus positioning. As for agencies, everibody here seems to like EuroPacific and Cambridge Communications.
For those that sent me PM's, for some reason I received them but cannot send a reply through PPRuNe, it looks like a server problem of sorts. I can answer your questions through e-mail but I need an address.

Cheers

Is it managment's ploy in an attempt to hire foreign FOs to screw up their union? Hard to take the bait if you are not wanted there in the 1st place and can't being to imagine to fly with the national Captains after the 1st hand horror stories I hear.....:{

evyjet 18th Apr 2006 07:20

Hey Guys,

I've got an interview for the 777 fleet next month.

Any info on the Korean Interview process would be greatly appreciated.

What does the interview entail, Sim ride etc.

Korean Air

:)Is Korean air operating 737's and if they are , are there any foreign crew hired for these aircraft? Would you be able to commute on these aircraft?

Thanks:cool:

Samuel Adams 26th Apr 2006 03:25

Hello X man

KAL operates a fleet of 737 (-800 and -900). There were some expats flying them but they all transitioned to the 744. The idea is to promote F/O's to the left seat on the 737, so unfortunately there will be no vacancies for foreigners in this type. KAL is hiring right now on the 744, will soon begin hiring on the 777 and there is some talk about the A330 as well.

Cheers

Just wondering if someone could give me an idea of the working enviroment at Korean these days, I know a few years ago (time of the Delta report) things were a bit upside down. Any honest opinions greatly appreciated.

Scooter Rassmussin 26th Apr 2006 04:07

I hear Korean is going to turn into an Ex Emirates country club............

GreenOnGo 26th Apr 2006 14:35

Many are threatening, but will many leave the sandpit?

Stixks 26th Apr 2006 19:08

If they do leave for Korean, will they all go on the 777?

Just curious

Cheers
