Second Officer Jobs in Asia other than CAL

Hi,

My wife is Asian. We live in Canada. She's trying to get me to move to Asia. I've lived there before and don't have a problem moving back. I rather like the place.

I'm also commercially rated (Canadian), but my low hours are killing me.

Does anyone know any operators based in Asia looking for expat S/O's who who are interested in staying in Asia for a long time?

Where can I find a list of new Asian start-ups who I could contact?

I'm really keen on finding work in Asia, so any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Gipper10001

Asia starts in Japan and ends in India. Where in Asia ?

Gipper10001 11th Feb 2006 16:53

Left Wing,

She's Korean so she'd prefer Korea, but anywhere in North East or South East Asia would be fine. So long as she can just hop on a plane for a short trip to back to the motherland to get heir "kimchie fix" all will be fine :ok:

Thanks,

The Gipper10001

Why going for S/O? There are lots of airlines around. Try the smaller ones as F/O. What experience do you have at all? Jet or turboprop?

S/O jobs also available in CX and SQ.

Hi Dani,

No jet or turboprop experience alas and very low hours, so I think my best chances are for an SO/Cruise pilot position.

Then you can forget about SO position with CX because I know that they're looking for pilots with 4,000TT and at least 1000 jet time.

Gipper, what I'm trying to say is that you will most probably easier get a job as a FO on a regional Asian airline than as a SO on a legacy carrier.

Air Asia??

Why is this thread called "....other than CAL " They dont hire SO's. All the foreigners there are CAPT or FO - and despite all the moaning they do a lot of the FO's there got a good break and a 744 rating out of the deal - which is better than what they had before.
Anyway I am ramling off elsewhere with this. Point is to answer your question - I think you are in a tough situation cause most asian carriers hire foreigners with experience. The low time guys are their own cadets. You goin to have a hard time convincing them to hire you. Unfortunately there is not a lot of general aviation - charter etc- in Asia, which would have made it easier for you.

Ha!

CAL, I don't know why I wrote CAL. I meant Cathay. :}

I was aware of their experience requirements for SO's, so I've got no chance there as some have mentioned.

There's gotta to be some start-up cargo operation in Asia somewhere flying the old Jurassic Jets that still require someone in the backset to ride side saddle.

I found one, but they want a PFE, not a SO in their old Classics.

I know you can't log the time in the back seat, but right now I'm mainly just looking for a paycheck and a job in the Asian region.

I know, it's a tough row to hoe what I want :)

Gipper10001 - From what I see the only way in to an airline with your kind of experience is as a cadet. Some CPPs have limitations based on nationality so you would have to see if you can meet the qualifications for these airlines that employ and train their own cadets. Plenty of Canadians in Cathay who still retain their Hong Kong right of abode, for example.
