MUMBAI, DECEMBER 10: Director General of Civil Aviation is conducting a probe into landing of a Kingfisher aircraft on the grass instead of the runway, at Pune Airport on December seven.
The aircraft bound for Bangalore had taken off from Ahmedabad via Pune. It landed on the grass and damaged arrester bar which has been errected to stop fighter planes as Pune Airport is managed by the Indian Air Force, the sources said.

The aircraft was commanded by a foreign pilot and co-pilot was Indian. The entire crew was detained soon after the incident, the sources added."

Lets hope this was done for a specific reason.... say., the grass looked greener or something !!
Don't the Indian Airline 320's have beefed up gear's to operate on 4-wheel terrain. Wonder if the Kingfisher one's have them too

Had to happen ...more coming up as we speak.

Most FOs in India are fresh CPLs with 300 hrs TT flying with South American Capts, very poor english.....hence no one in the cockpit understands each other..Bad Runways is a lame excuse.

I doubt the seriousness of this message. An airliner would never land on grass, it would sink. Would make quite a big mess, you would read it in bigger newspapers than the financial express.

I assume that the aircraft touched a short way of grass, maybe before or after the RWY.

As fighters don't land on grass either and the aircraft hit arrestor gear, I would suggest that what actually happened was an over-run onto the grass past the runway.

If Indian airlines don't want this to happen, they better start paying some serious money to attract good foreiners, and lobby their government to remove some of the restrictions to their employment.

Sure as soon as EU starts to hire pilots without right to live and work in EU, Indian govt will do the same.

Hairy Chest your post didn't make sense. If you have facts to substantiate your accusations then please post them. You cannot claim that an airline is unsafe without some FACTS to back that up.

What Hairy was commenting was I presume on Wizofoz posting about restictions on employment in India.

EUs employment policy is skewed in favor of certain nationalities. For the same reason dont expect Indian government to welcome everyone with open arms! Blair and his EU friends wants India to buy their Airbus and ATR toys but dont want the Indian pilots to work for their airlines at any cost!

Well the airline has clarified what hahs happened and the newspaper has published the same in the same linmk which the original poster had given (but after his initial post)

Clarification: Kingfisher Airlines\' Reaction

Kingfisher Airlines wishes to clarify that flight IT 405 from Ahmedabad to Pune was under the command of Captain H. Abbas and co-pilot Captain Rajiv Gaur.

The incident being investifgated by P. Shaw, Deputy Director, Air Safety, DGCA Mumbai, is because the aircraft, after stopping on the runway, cropssed the flat barrier chain, while executing the back track (180 degree U-turn), on

clearance from the Air Traffic Control, Pune Aerodrome, to proceed to the parking bay.

Any suggestion that this was an overshoot or an incident that affected passenger safety is an exaggeration and completely unfounded.

Kingfisher Airlines places the highest emphasis on safety and has grounded the pilots for the purposes of this investifgation.\"

I don't work for Kingfisher, but from the article, what bloody nonsense!!!! Give me a break!!! That story has just been blown way out of proportion....another one for the media trying to sensationalize everything. If I were those pilots, I would go after that stupid news reporter.

Unless the pilots were both completely blind, why in the world would they want to taxi into a bay that was already occupied by an aircraft???

And that part of the story where 300 people would have been killed is just another way of getting people's attention.

4th. cap is not from SA
5th it has nothing to do with english or crew comm

Well well well.. Looks like Kingfisher better have some heads up now.. If anyone of you remember quite many years back one major aircraft manufacturer embarked on a media war against the other. Results.. ANY bits and pieces of craps of the rival company's new a/c type was blown out of proportion in daily front page whilst their own new aircraft type teething problems were "hidden" in small prints right next to sports page.

This is clearly an attempt from some party trying their best to slow a potential strong locally "brewed" carrier.. It will be interesting to watch now how much $$$$ Kingfisher had invested in its PR department..
