SIA DEC
Does anyone have info on recent 777 DEC recruitment - I meet all the requirements and applied sometime ago but so far no word not even an acknowledgement of the application being received - is this normal?
|
been 15 months for me so far - and I was qualed too. It took 8 months to even get the interview - finally getting some response that I might be getting closer. Cargo is MUCH quicker
|
The hiring process must take a lot longer nowadays than when I was there.
For yours truly... DEC application sent one week, interview with the DFO the next in London, and travelled out to Singapore a week later. Sim/line training took four weeks, tops. Of course, I arrived fully qualified and current, which helped, I'm sure. At SQ, some things never change, especially their inability to recruit in a timely fashion, when the need becomes remotely apparent. When I applied, they were cancelling flights due to a shortage of DEC's.:} |

L1011 DEC. This has to be before 1996 i assume. October 1996 was the last month of L1011 service with Cathay.

SIA DEC
Hi Gypcy,
Some facts dear friend! Application Aug 2004 (hard copy).November same year, received message that my application is registered and currently receiving attention. Interview - June 2005. Interview,SIM,Medical all done and cleared. Well, I'm still waiting for the magical call. Might be useful for some of you mates, to know that. So keep your fingers crossed and be patient. At least this is what I'm doing.I know, not much of a help. Sorry..... |
Care to enlighten us as to what year you scored your DEC position with SQ, 411A? :O
|
Had to be around 1944.LOL: :O
|
I think you'll find that 411A was with SIA on the B707 which came into service with the then MSA in 1968 and stayed for a while!
SIA didn't operate the L1011 TriStar, PIA747, that was CX. |
Indeed it was the 'ole 707, Blue Eagle, circa mid-seventies.
Then, the 707 was the larger fleet, with the 747's close behind. Ah, the good 'ole days.:} Same general style of management, then as now. Many of the 707 guys joining were recently retired from BA, and retraining on the 707 was a bit of a letdown, according to them anyway. A regular revolving door with these folks, as nearly all left within two years. |
Come on guys don't be shy. Give it a try. Anyone knows something more about upcoming DEC 777 course,or whatever rumor........Please ....

hi all I am 18 years old and a private pilot from the singapore youth flying club. The airforce is offering me a career as a pilot but many people have said that it would be better to go straight to the airlines as there is where I would want to end up in and it is difficult to make the switch from the airforce to the airlines. What is your advice? Thanks

This is not the correct thread. It is not polite to hijack someone else's thread.
Start another thread and I will respond. |
huangmonkey,
first of all, SIA CAN'T take you in unless you are 26+ (for Singaporeans). secondly, to cross over from airforce is not easy but i've seen many, and i mean many. the waiting period to be released from airforce is long but some for them chosed to quit airforce with one month notice, then apply for SIA direct. one of the few differences between the options mentioned above are pay received during training. a difference of about 2k per month. hope that helps.. go find out more about all these admin stuff from friends or thru instructors at YFC. if not mistaken, some of them were ex airforce instructors. I too had a lot of trouble digging for aviation related information when i first started out. =) |
Re: SIA DEC
Thanks winglet for your reply. I've started mine own thread now http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=204467 I apologise for disrupting the thread

Re: SIA DEC
The reason for the stop in recruitment is the delay on the A380's. The A380 will be crewed with people from the 777, and that will create openings there.
